Evelyn sneered coldly. “If it weren’t for those dirty dealings in the past, would you be sitting so securely as the legitimate heir of the Pendleton family? And now you want to disassociate from the family? Isn’t it a bit late for that?”
Maxwell looked at Evelyn with icy eyes and warned, “Don’t test my patience. If you keep this up, I won’t bother with your studio anymore!”
Evelyn’s media studio, although technically a subsidiary of the Pendleton Corp, heavily relied on Maxwell’s influence. Without his approval, the Pendleton Corp wouldn’t make things easy for her. Many things required Maxwell’s name to be thrown in the mix. If Maxwell decided to wash his hands off it, her small studio wouldn’t stand a chance in the fiercely competitive city.
Evelyn panicked at Maxwell’s threat. “I’m your own sister! If not me, who else would you care for? Aurora? Has Aurora even acknowledged you? If you don’t help me take her down, once she takes over the Pendleton family, we’ll both end up as the shameful bastards!”
“Get lost! Maxwell’s sudden roar startled Evelyn. His eyes were cold. “Get out of the car!”
Evelyn huffed, “Fine! I’ll get out!”
She slammed the car door with a loud ‘bang‘ and yelled after the departing vehicle, “Maxwell! Think about who you’re siding with!”
Her words were still hanging in the air as Maxwell drove off, leaving her in a cloud of dust.
Evelyn spat in disdain and took out her phone, calling Wilde while stamping her feet petulantly. “I’m being bullied by Aurora! Come pick me up, quick!”
Wilde, upon hearing his beloved was in trouble, immediately drove over.
In recent days, Evelyn had been quite affectionate towards him, enchanting him so much that he’d do anything for her.
Seeing Wilde’s car arrive, Evelyn immediately got in and complained, “Why did you come yourself? What if the paparazzi spotted you?”
Wilde wrapped his arm around Evelyn’s slender waist, soothing her, “I was worried you were upset. I had to come and see you.”
“What’s the point of seeing me?” Evelyn snapped. “Aurora is thriving, and if I don’t win any awards by the end of the year, how am I going to face the family?”
“Don’t worry, darling,” Wilde coaxed her gently. “Want an award? It’s not a big deal. Aurora just got lucky with a good script. She doesn’t have any real connections. Which judge would dare to ignore my presence?”
Evelyn’s eyes sparkled. “Really? You have connections with the judges?”
Wilde nodded confidently. “Of course. I’ll introduce you to them. Winning an award will be a piece of cake.”
Evelyn, now cheerful, snuggled up to Wilde. “If you can get rid of Aurora, I’ll be your girlfriend.”
Wilde, charmed by her smile, immediately drove them back to his villa.
Meanwhile, Aurora was at home, dining with her grandfather. Lately, the old man seemed increasingly listless. Leen mentioned that ever since his last illness, he hadn’t been the same, often suffering from insomnia.

Aurora had invited Lysander to examine him. Lysander confirmed that there wasn’t anything seriously wrong with his health, but age was inevitably taking its toll. He couldn’t be as vigorous as he was a couple of years ago.
For the first time, Aurora felt the fragility of old age. She dreaded the day the old patriarch wouldn’t be able to rise from his bed, so she made it a point to spend as much time as possible with him, accompanying him for meals and walks.
Heath had been incredibly busy lately. His company’s subsidiary in the United States demanded his attention, leading to frequent video conferences at all hours to accommodate the time difference. It had been a while since he and Aurora had the chance to enjoy a proper meal together.
Thus, for several months, Zane and Chery were engrossed in filming, Daxton was swamped with appearances, and even Vaspera seemed to have vanished, hardly traceable,
When Zane’s film The Pianist wrapped up, Chery was still in seclusion, shooting Dual Facades. Therefore, Aurora didn’t go out of her way to organize a wrap party, deciding instead to wait for the movie’s release to see its performance before planning any celebration.
Zane let Aurora know he was attending the wrap party with the crew. Aurora, cautioning him to drink less and avoid trouble, didn’t fuss over it.
The next day, a video of Zane surfaced online. In the clip, Zane, with a drink in hand and lounging on a sofa, boasted, “What? Just an acting award? I’ll snatch one for you guys!”
Aurora had just seen the video when she instructed her assistant to buy out the trending searches and pull it down. However, the video’s views and search rates skyrocketed as if fueled by adrenaline. In less than half an hour, it was already causing a frenzy on social media.
Previously, Zane’s tweet about aiming for the best actor award had barely been suppressed by Aurora purchasing an online army to drown it. Now, with such a video released, the entire net knew of Zane’s bold words, making the retraction pointless.
Last time, to tarnish Zane’s image, Sophia released a bunch of photos showing him in a compromising position, which eventually turned out to be Alaric in the pictures, not Zane.

But this time, it wasn’t a dubious side shot the video was a frontal take of Zane himself, unmistakably, even his characteristic, provocative tone was undeniably Zane’s.
When Aurora, accompanied by Jay, arrived at Zane’s residence, Zane was still asleep. Jay, knowing his way around, fetched ice from the fridge and went upstairs to ‘gently‘ wake Zane up.
After a series of screams like a swine being slaughtered, Zane, wrapped in a bathrobe, tumbled downstairs. Seeing Aurora seated on the sofa, he exclaimed, “Didn’t I just finish shooting? Wasn’t I on vacation? What are you doing here so early?”
Aurora gave him a withering look. “You dare to ask why I am here? Look at the mess you’ve made!”
She tossed her phone at him. Zane opened it to see the top trending topic on Twitter: Zane for Best Actor 【Hot】.
Opening the video, Zane saw his drunken self from the previous night’s wrap party, ranting about winning the acting award, utterly confused.
Aurora, frustrated beyond words, scolded, “I told you to drink less! Look at you now, blabbering away!”
Zane, feeling wronged, replied, “How was I to know it would be recorded?”
Chapter 242
Aurora, her head throbbing with irritation, retorted, ‘Now the whole world knows about your bold claim to win the best actor award. Apart from your fans defending you, the internet is filled with mockery. If you don’t win, you’ll be the laughing stock till next year!”
Zane tossed the phone aside, leaned back on the sofa, and wrapped himself in his bathrobe, responding, “Well, you never know. My performance was top–notch, maybe I will win. Then I’ll shut everyone up!”
Aurora was speechless.
Bro, do you think winning an acting award is that easy? Where does this unfounded confidence come from?
“Or, we could release some news to bury this story?” Zane suggested slyly, leaning towards Aurora.
Aurora glanced at him, asking, “What news?”
“The explosive kind…” Zane whispered.
“Like what?” Aurora raised an eyebrow.
“Like… news about me having a girlfriend…” Zane ventured cautiously.
