Chapter 243
Aurora snatched a cushion nearby and hurled it at Zane’s head, scolding, ‘Quit scheming on Chery!”
Zane caught the cushion, scratching his head, and retorted, “What’s so bad about me that you have to interfere?‘
Aurora glanced at him helplessly, ‘It’s not about you being good or bad. It’s about Chery’s career, which could be ruined in an instant. This isn’t just about you. I can’t use Chery as a shield for you.”
Standing up and ruffling his hair, Zane suggested, “Then I’ll go and talk to Chery directly, clear things up, okay?”
Aurora was speechless.
She grabbed him abruptly, “Stop right there! Don’t be reckless!”
Zane, currently surrounded by rumors, seemed utterly unbothered, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of Chery. However, Chery’s true feelings on the matter were a mystery.
Aurora was equally frustrated. The dilemma was tricky; ignoring the situation could severely impact Zane’s public image, but mishandling it could jeopardize his future career prospects even more.
Moreover, since someone intentionally leaked the video to harm Zane, they wouldn’t sit back and let him dodge the issue silently.
Indeed, the best strategy seemed to be to overshadow this scandal with an even bigger piece of news.
As Aurora pondered her next move, her assistant called, urging her to check Instagram immediately.
Grabbing her phone, Aurora saw the trending topic had shifted to ‘Soraya’s late–night rendezvous with a mysterious man.”
Startled, Aurora clicked on the post, which featured a blurry photo of Soraya, arm–in–arm with a man, seemingly deep in conversation.
Though both figures wore caps, it was unmistakably Soraya herself.
Ever since starring in the TV drama, Soraya had climbed to second–tier celebrity status as the industry’s new darling. Many admired her sweet, charming demeanor.
Some even compared her to Sophia, who had also been known for her innocent charm before her unfortunate fall from grace after crossing paths with Aurora.
Soraya had always been publicly single, so the sudden snapshot of her with a man sparked wild speculation about a potential boyfriend outside the industry, diverting attention from Zane’s bold claims of aiming for a Best Actor award.
Zane, peeking over the news, remarked, “The timing of this news couldn’t be better. Without any need for clarification from me, this story will blow over.”
Snatching Zane’s phone, Aurora tweeted, “When I’m drunk, I tend to talk nonsense. I hope the camera–toting good Samaritans capture less of my embarrassing moments.”
With her online army setting the narrative and flooding Twitter with comments, Zane’s image quickly transformed into a victim of malicious news spun from a drunken blunder.

Chapter 243
Supported by his fans fervent defense, the controversy surrounding Zane temporarily simmered down, as online chatter shifted predominantly to Soraya’s affair.
Seeing the situation defuse, Zane messaged Soraya, inquiring about the true story.
Soraya replied that it was just a casual friend, blown out of proportion by the media. Harmony Media, her agency, wasn’t overly concerned and would soon officially refute the rumors of her having a boyfriend, advising Zane to use this opportunity to quell his own scandals.
Zane, realizing he was somewhat riding on Soraya’s coattails to avoid further inflating his own controversy, expressed his gratitude, promising to return the favor sometime.
Meanwhile, Evelyn, having gone to great lengths to bribe someone from The Pianist crew to intoxicate Zane and capture the video, was furious, smashing her computer on the desk.
Evelyn thought she could seize this opportunity to strike at Aurora, but who would have imagined that an unexpected scandal involving Soraya would erupt, diverting all the media attention? Now, every outlet was on the lookout for Soraya’s rumored beau, leaving Zane’s drunken remarks in the dust.
Moreover, with Zane’s post and Aurora’s strategic PR moves, Zane had been recast as a victim. If Evelyn persisted, it would only appear as if someone was indeed trying to frame Zane.
Thus, the matter was left unresolved. Aurora made Zane promise repeatedly not to bother Chery before she finally left his house. As she was leaving, she bumped into Alaric, who greeted her with a smile, ‘Hey long time no see.”
Aurora returned the smile, “Indeed, it’s been a while. I heard you’ve been taking care of Vespera recently?”
Alaric chuckled awkwardly, “She got hurt because of me, so it’s only right that I look after her.”
Aurora nodded and turned to leave. Just then, Alaric called out to her, ‘Aurora, does Vespera… have someone she likes?”
Aurora paused, nodded, and said, “Yes, but don’t you have feelings for Elowen as well?‘
Stunned, Alaric grasped Aurora’s implication after a moment and simply smiled, watching her drive away before heading back inside.
These days, Alaric had been attentively caring for Vespera. However, she remained distant, like a piece of wood, maintaining a gap between them. Alaric had inadvertently seen a man’s photo in Vespera’s wallet, leading him to suspect she harbored feelings for someone else.
Yet, Aurora was right; he had feelings for Elowen. So, he wondered, what was he agonizing over every day?
Inside the car, Aurora called Vespera. The phone rang for a long while before a lethargic voice answered, “Aurora, what’s up?”
Aurora asked, ‘What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?‘
Vespera was silent for a moment, then said, ‘I’m just feeling down. Can you keep me company for a while?”
Aurora readily agreed, “Of course, pick a place, and I’ll come to you.”
After hanging up, Vespera sent a café’s location. Aurora handed her phone to Jay, who drove her to the café.
Chapter 243
Arriving at the café, Aurora immediately spotted Vespera sitting by the window, dressed in a sweater. Her makeup was thick, but she seemed spiritless.
Aurora sat across from Vespera, who managed a smile, “I’ve ordered for you.”
Nodding, Aurora sipped her coffee and inquired, “What’s wrong? Why are you upset?‘
Vespera glanced outside and revealed, “He’s getting married.”
Stunned, Aurora asked, “Your childhood friend? He’s getting married?”
Vespera nodded, her nose twitching. Only then did Aurora notice Vespera’s swollen eyes, betraying recent tears.
Aurora reached out, holding Vespera’s hand. Tears spilled from Vespera’s eyes as she whispered, ‘I always thought he’d come back. How can he just get married like that?”
Not knowing how to console her, Aurora was unaware of the depth of Vespera’s past with this childhood friend or what had led Vespera to wait for him all these years, only for him to decide to marry someone else.
So, all Aurora could do was hold Vespera’s hand, assuring her of her presence, listening to Vespera’s soft sobs.
As dusk fell and the streetlights flickered on, Vespera awkwardly wiped her tears, apologizing, “I’m sorry for making you stay with me so long.”
Aurora scolded her gently, “Nonsense, what’s there to be sorry about? If one day I and Hea…”
Aurora abruptly stopped. She had meant to say, if she and Heath ever broke up, she too would need Vespera to keep her company just as long.
