Vespera chuckled and explained, “Our family is rather conservative. In the eyes of our elders, being an actress isn’t considered a noble profession. Plus, Yvonne hasn’t been without scandals since she entered the industry. To prevent her from tarnishing the family’s political image, we’ve never publicly acknowledged this identity.”

Aurora understood; thus, Yvonne’s departure from the entertainment scene didn’t subject her to ridicule like Sophia. Instead, she was living a better life now, being the cherished daughter of the Thornfield family.

“Why did she drug you today?” Aurora inquired.

Vespera gave a sardonic laugh, “Because I suddenly became your studio’s designer. She couldn’t stand seeing me doing better than her,

planning to drug me and send me off to some executive’s bed. It was either kill me or have me as her eternal blood bank.

Aurora clenched her fists, outraged, “That’s intolerable!”

Vespera, however, was quite calm and even comforted Aurora, “It’s okay. I’m used to it, and luckily, you saved me.”

Aurora took Vespera’s hand, “From now on, you’ll stay at the apartment. If you go back to the Thornfield’s, take Jay with you, or who

knows what Yvonne might do to you.”

Vespera nodded, “Yeah, I got it.”

After ensuring Vespera was alright, Aurora left to see Heath.

Upon seeing Heath, Aurora suddenly remembered what Kieran had once told her about the complicated nature of the Thornfield family. She didn’t understand then, but now she did. Vespera was just like her, bullied and tormented.

So when she first met Vespera, her frequent remarks of being “not really a Thornfield” made sense, as did her heavy makeup, lack of appetite when dining out, and her frail health from years as a blood bank, making her weaker than an average person.

Heath, upon seeing Aurora, wasn’t too surprised, merely asking, “You know about the Thornfield’s situation?”

Aurora nodded, “I do.”

“If you’re set on promoting Vespera as a designer, be prepared. She won’t be able to remain invisible; instead, she’ll become a target for

many, Heath advised.

Aurora remained resolute, “I understand. It’s Vespera’s career, and it’s mine and Cheryl’s too. I won’t let anything happen to her.”

Heath continued with his work, not saying more. Aurora looked at him several times before Heath finally looked up and met her gaze,

Aurora smiled and shook her head, “Nothing, then returned to her documents.

She couldn’t pinpoint it, but despite Heath’s usual patience, gentleness, and willingness to help, something felt different to Aurora.

It was as if a wall stood between them, with Heath harboring secrets he wasn’t willing to share.

Aurora usually wouldn’t mind, but she couldn’t help worrying if Heath would again involve himself in something dangerous for the KING
