Chapter 278
Kieran shook his head, explaining, I’m not sure. He insisted on telling you in person, so it must be significant; otherwise, he wouldn’t
have you travel all this way.”
Heath’s expression remained unreadable, but Kieran knew he was worried that whatever Eamon had found might involve Aurora.
Back in the capital city.
After washing up and changing into a high–necked outfit to cover the marks on her neck, Aurora returned to her family villa. Just the day
before, Heath had proposed, and she hadn’t come home all night, likely giving her grandfather more reason to worry.
Upon seeing Aurora enter, her grandfather greeted her with a smile, “Why have you returned alone? Where’s Heath?”
Aurora retorted, “He’s on a business trip. Grandpa, I’m your granddaughter. Can’t you show a little more concern for me?”
Her grandfather laughed, “You are my granddaughter, and Heath is my grandson–in–law. It’s all the same to me.”
Aurora protested, “Grandpa! What grandson–in–law? Stop bringing this up all the time.”
Undeterred and still smiling, her grandfather said, “Alright, alright, I’ll stop. But you and Heath should be careful. It wouldn’t look good if
you ended up pregnant before the wedding. Safety first…”
“Grandpa!” Aurora’s face turned beet red, her posture suggesting she might run away from home if he continued.
Her grandfather finally waved his hand, conceding, “Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking about it.”
Aurora sighed. The engagement clearly delighted her grandfather, who seemed more spirited than ever, eagerly pushing for her and Heath
to hurry up and get married.
While Aurora was keeping her grandfather company in the living room, a commotion outside drew their attention. Her grandfather
frowned, “Leen, go check what’s happening outside.”
Aurora stood up, Tll go with Leen.”
Her grandfather nodded, focusing on his chess pieces, content in his own company.
Aurora knew the disturbance was caused by Madeline. She had instructed the servants to keep any visitors from Madeline’s side at bay, given her grandfather’s need for peace and quiet.
As Aurora and Leen stepped outside, they indeed found Madeline and Sebastian making a scene. Upon seeing Aurora, Sebastian appeared
ready to confront her, “You disgraceful girl! Come here!”
Aurora, arms crossed, stood on the steps, “Is there something you need from me?”

Chapter 278
Sebastian, furious, accused her, “Look what you’ve done to Maxwell! He’s still lying in the hospital!”
Aurora frowned and said, “What does Maxwell’s accident have to do with me?”

Tears streaming down her face, Madeline leaned into Sebastian’s embrace and sobbed, “Aurora, what has Maxwell done to upset you so much? After his car accident, you just left him alone in the hospital. Now that he’s awake, he’s insisting on seeing you. Why is that?”
Aurora scoffed, “Why? You should be asking your son that. I’m not his mother; I don’t need to spend my days in the hospital with him!”
Madeline, always playing the part of the pitiful victim in front of Sebastian, cried even harder, nearly collapsing if not for Sebastian’s
support. She pleaded, “Aurora, I’m begging you, please go see Maxwell. He’s just woken up and is already causing a fuss about leaving the
hospital. How can he be so frail?”
Aurora harbored deep resentment towards the whole family, especially Maxwell, whom she detested. Although uncertain about how much
Maxwell knew about the past events, Aurora couldn’t help but remember that Sebastian had abandoned her and her mother for this
illegitimate son.
Watching Madeline’s tearful spectacle, Aurora coldly said, “My grandfather’s health is fragile; he needs peace and quiet. Please leave us
alone”
With that, Aurora turned and walked away.
However, Madeline was not one to give up easily. Maxwell was her most cherished son, and she was counting on him to inherit the family
fortune. Only then could she comfortably continue as the lady of the Pendleton house.
