Chapter 292
Ludi strode forward and, with a swift motion, slapped Aurora hard across the face, his voice thundering with accusation, “Wench! Was it your doing?”
Accustomed to the battlefield, Ludi’s strength was no match for the ordinary man. His slap turned Aurora’s head sharply, drawing bright red blood to trickle down from the corner of her mouth, her cheek swelling instantly.
Heath stared intently at Aurora. Could this woman not keep her mouth shut? Did she have a death wish?
With a cold laugh, Aurora spat blood mixed with saliva onto the ground. Turning to face Ludi, her eyes sparkled with a fearless determination. “Seeking revenge?” she challenged. ‘No need to hunt down Eamon. It was I who ended your reckless brother. He pointed a gun at my man, so I aimed straight for his head and, without hesitation, blew it apart without as much as blinking an eye…”
Ludi grasped Aurora’s jaw, forcing her to meet his gaze, while pressing a pistol against her throat with his other hand. His eyes were sinister as he growled, “You vile woman! I’ll end you right now!”
With the gun’s barrel pressed against her jaw, Aurora was forced to tilt her head back, struggling to glance downwards. She managed to squeeze a faint smile at Heath despite her predicament.
Having not lived well in her previous life and thinking she wouldn’t have to face gunfire and peril again, she found it ironic to be dying by the gun. Yet, she harbored no regrets.
The thought that she had given her all to save Heath, even at the cost of her life, made it all seem worthwhile. The unavenged grievances and unfulfilled
desires paled in comparison to the importance of the man before her.
Even if Heath was doomed to die, Aurora was content knowing she hadn’t abandoned him. She was always hesitant until making a decision, but once made,
she was all in, even to the point of sacrificing her life.
Her only regret was not having the chance to express her feelings to Heath, as the gun pressed against her throat silenced her. She vividly remembered the
most endearing words she had ever said to him were a casual “I like you,” a somewhat frivolous confession.
“No! No!” Heath struggled to rise despite his severe injuries. At this moment, even two strong men could barely restrain him.
Always a master strategist, Heath had always moved carefully, maintaining his calm and dignity. Never had he appeared as disheveled and helpless as he did
now.
Pinned to the floor, his once pristine and handsome face now smeared with dirt, he could think of nothing but Aurora’s impending death.
From the moment she fell into his arms to her resolute awaiting of death, Heath was unaware of the pain from his injuries. All he knew was that he couldn’t
live if she died.
Despite their efforts, the two strong men couldn’t fully restrain Heath as he reached for Aurora’s trouser leg. His eyes were fixed on her, determined to shield her from the bullet, unable to bear the thought of her pain.
Heath realized then that the melodramatic moments in dramas, where characters argue who should go first, were not laughable. When yoù deeply love someone, even if it leads to a dead end, you wish for them to live an extra second because the thought of a world without Aurora was unbearable to Heath.
Even if it meant fighting for just a second longer, he was ready to risk everything.
Seeing Heath’s struggle and Aurora’s tears, Ludi did not fire. Instead, he grabbed her hair, sneering, “You wish to die? I’ll make you wish you were dead!”
