Me And My Billionaire Husband (Aurora and Heath) novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

“Boss, there’s one more thing,” Kieran suddenly remembered.

“Go on.”

“It’s kinda weird. Miss Aurora fell down the stairs, and the doctors initially said she was in critical condition. But then she woke up after two days, and the doctors changed their minds, saying it was just a concussion,” Kieran explained.

Heath tapped his fingers on the desk as he looked at the files in front of him. Kieran knew that was Heath’s thinking pose.

So, Heath thought, Aurora was almost dead, and then she just… recovered? Could this Aurora be a different person from the original, naive Miss Aurora?

“But the records clearly state that Sebastian Pendleton’s ex-wife only had one child, Aurora Pendleton,” Heath mused.

“Did you check on the ex-wife?” Heath asked.

“I did. Not much info. Sebastian didn’t really love her. They had a child by accident and rarely went out together. She passed away, and the Pendletons cleared out all her stuff,” Kieran said.

“Why would they marry if there was no love? Shouldn’t there be some powerful family backing her?” Heath questioned.

“Uh, she was said to be the daughter of an overseas Chinese family, but that’s where the trail goes cold. After she passed, the Pendletons changed all their staff. Mrs. Madeline took charge, and Sebastian just let her do her thing,” Kieran replied.

“What did she do with the 3 million she borrowed today?” Heath asked.

Kieran immediately responded, “Bought a house.”

“A house?” Heath echoed.

“Yes, Aurora bought a standalone villa in the western suburbs. She paid in full,” Kieran handed over the sales documents to Heath.

“4 million in full, but she only borrowed 3 million. Where did the remaining 1 million come from?” Heath questioned.

“I’m not sure. All I know is that she paid in full. How she got the money, I couldn’t find out,” Kieran said,

“Find out. Check all her accounts, anyone who’s had financial dealings with her. We need to know where the rest of that money came from! Heath ordered.

“Got it!” Kieran immediately agreed.

“Did you find out why she bought the house?” Heath asked.

“The sales rep said Aurora didn’t care about the price, just that it had to be big enough for five or six people to live in. She chose the western suburbs because it’s close to the airport and the docks,” Kieran explained.

Five or six people? Heath pondered, tapping his desk. Aurora never had friends growing up, and her mother passed away early. Who could

possibly be living in such a large villa?

Keep an eye on that villa. Find out who’s actually living there,” Heath said.

“Will do! Kieran agreed.

He felt embarrassed. As Heath’s assistant, he prided himself on being competent, but with this Aurora, he was getting nowhere. The more he dug, the more questions arose,

After Kieran left, Heath stood by the floor-to-ceiling window in his office, watching the hustle and bustle below. He thought back to the evening when the girl climbed out of the window and fell into his arms.

He had thought it was a fleeting encounter, but this young lady, Aurora, seemed to have more secrets than he had ever imagined.

Aurora Pendleton, you’ve successfully piqued my interest.

The next day, a clothing store sent over dresses for a party Aurora was attending with Madeline. They brought four dresses, two for each, one for the party and one as a backup.

Both were excited as they changed into their dresses and applied makeup. When they emerged, they looked like a wealthy matron and her daughter.

Madeline was surprised to see Aurora still standing there. “Oh my, Aurora, I’m so sorry. You never attend these parties, so the store didn’t bring an extra dress for you. What do we do now?”

Sophia sneered, “Mom, if she doesn’t have a dress, she shouldn’t go. There’s always next time. It’d be rude to go without proper attire.”

Madeline pretended to think, “Then Aurora, you shouldn’t go this time. I’ll talk to your father and get you some decent dresses.”

Sophia grinned, “Mom, let’s go. We shouldn’t keep Mrs. Song waiting.”

Madeline nodded, and they both left, never asking Aurora a single question. Aurora watched their performance silently. This mother- daughter duo should really consider a career in acting; they’d have a bright future.
