Sophia and Ethan descended the stairs together. Madeline feigned annoyance, “You didn’t even greet the us when you arrived, how rude!”
Sophia giggled and cozied up to her, “Sorry, Mom, my bad.”
Mrs. Song laughed, “No worries, we’re all family here. Why stand on ceremony?”
Ethan also chimed in, “Mrs. Pendleton, don’t blame Sophia. I wanted to show her around.”
Madeline smiled, “Alright, alright, with so many people defending her, how could I possibly offend this little princess?”
Sophia blushed, “Mom, stop it!”
The guests watched the scene unfold. A marriage between the Song and Pendleton families seemed inevitable. Mrs. Song had publicly acknowledged them as family, and Ethan and Sophia looked smitten with each other. Sophia might be young, but she was beautiful and kind-hearted, a perfect future Mrs. Song.
The Pendletons’ alliance with the Songs would elevate their status in the city, making them even more influential. Many would have to curry favor with them.
The ladies immediately began to flatter Madeline and Sophia.
“Mrs. Pendleton, you’re so lucky to have such a lovely daughter!”
“And don’t forget Evelyn, she’s also stunning. They must have inherited your good genes!”
“Mrs. Pendleton, your son is so capable, and your daughters are so beautiful. We’re all so envious!”
Madeline couldn’t stop grinning. If Sophia married into the Song family, she’d be Ethan’s mother-in-law, and Ethan was the sole heir to the Song fortune!
Sophia was also elated by the compliments. She might not be as glamorous as her sister Evelyn, but she was young and pretty. Once she entered the entertainment industry, she’d outshine Evelyn for sure.
As everyone chatted, the banquet was about to begin.
That’s when Aurora arrived. The door opened, and all eyes turned to see a young woman in a white gown, each step like a blooming flower, making her entrance.
Her features were exquisite, her eyes bright and clear, looking around as if she were a lost fawn in a forest, utterly enchanting.
The crowd began to whisper, “Who is this latecomer who’s outshining everyone?”
Ethan was momentarily stunned. He’d never seen such a striking beauty. Her waist looked so slender, he couldn’t help but imagine how wonderful it would feel to hold her.
“Ethan? Ethan?” Sophia called out several times, but he didn’t hear her.

Sophia clenched her fists in anger. That damn Aurora, where did she get that dress? She had the nerve to show up and try to steal Ethan? What a little tramp!
She decided to keep a close eye on Aurora, not letting her exchange even a single word with Ethan.
“Aurora? Why are you so late?” Sophia greeted her with a smile.
Aurora turned to see Sophia and chuckled, “Sophia, I had to pick up my dress from the store, so I was a bit delayed.”
Hearing this, a few ladies began to whisper. Just moments ago, Madeline was bragging about how their dresses were delivered home for them to choose. Why did Aurora have to go to the store herself?
Some guests who had attended Grandpa’s last birthday party knew that Aurora was the daughter of Sebastian Pendleton’s first wife. The whispers grew louder, speculating that Madeline wouldn’t even prepare a dress for her stepdaughter. How was she any different from
Cinderella’s wicked stepmother?
Madeline’s face turned ashen. She knew that Aurora would stir up trouble. Just a few words had already tarnished her image as a dignified, high-society lady.
Aurora, however, smiled and greeted another guest, “Mom, the dresses delivered to your home are indeed the most beautiful!”
With that one sentence, she confirmed everyone’s suspicions: Madeline and her daughters had their dresses delivered home, while Aurora, the stepdaughter, had to fend for herself. How pitiful!
Madeline forced a laugh and clenched her fists. “You just couldn’t resist crashing the party, huh? Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you when
things get ugly.”
