Chapter 48
“Aurora was drunk, and I happened to run into her. I took her to a hotel to rest. Mrs. Pendleton, you’re not suggesting that I have ill intentions toward a high school student, are you?” Heath said.
‘Of course not… absolutely not,” Madeline quickly replied.
“Good. Then please discipline your daughter to not go around calling people ‘sketchy’, Heath said, his tone icy.
“Yes, Mr. Fairbank, you are absolutely right,” Madeline nodded repeatedly. Heath was a friend of her father-in-law, someone she couldn’t afford to offend.

“Oh, by the way, Miss Aurora asked me to test some medication for her. Here’s the report,” Lysander Fane handed the test report to
Aurora.
Aurora’s eyes widened as she scanned the report. Her hands trembled, letting the paper slip to the floor. Tears started to roll down her cheeks as she choked out, ‘Madeline, why? What did I ever do to deserve this from you?””
“What are you talking about, Aurora?” Madeline was speechless. What was Aurora up to now?
“The vitamins you have been giving me since I was a child are full of hormones and neuroinhibitors. Are you trying to turn me into an idiot?” Aurora cried out.
Someone picked up the report from the floor, and the room exploded with chatter. Madeline had been drugging Aurora for years!
Madeline felt like she’d been struck by lightning. She thought Aurora was slowly becoming foolish, but she never expected her to test the
medication.
“Aurora, what nonsense are you talking about? The vitamins I gave you couldn’t possibly contain those substances,” Madeline tried to
defend herself.
Before Aurora could respond, a thug-like man burst into the room, falling at Sophia’s feet and shouting, “Miss Sophia, we did the job for you. You can’t deny it now! My guys are waiting to get paid!”
“Who are you? What job did you do for Sophia?” Ethan pulled Sophia back, looking annoyed.
“We were hired by Miss Sophia to assault her sister. Although we didn’t succeed, it’s because her sister was saved. We got hurt too, you can’t not pay us!” the thug said.
Sophia’s face turned as white as a sheet. She was done for.
Madeline immediately defended Sophia, “This is nonsense! Where did this lunatic come from, slandering Sophia like this? Do you know where you are?’
‘Ma’am, debts must be paid. Just give me the money and I’ll leave, the thug insisted.
Madeline called for security, “Get this lunatic out of here!”
Security rushed in and dragged the thug out, but the damage was done. The room was buzzing with talk.

Chapter 48
Aurora smirked. The stage was set, and it would be a waste not to perform.
She closed her eyes, tears falling down her beautifully made-up face, Madeline, Sophia, I’m just an expendable member of the Pendleton family. If I’ve done something wrong, you can scold or hit me. Why drug me, try to ruin my reputation, and even hire people to harm
me7
Nonsense. Sophia would never do such a thing! Where did you find such disreputable people to slander her?” Madeline questioned.
The last time Aurora was saved, it was by me. Are you suggesting that I’m lying too, Mrs. Pendleton?” Heath suddenly spoke, his voice
cold.
“Mr. Fairbank… no… of course not,” Madeline was at a loss.
“Madeline, since you and Sophia hate me so much, I’ll move to the ancestral home and live with Grandpa, so I won’t be in your way,” Aurora said, her voice tinged with sorrow.
Madeline was alarmed. Aurora had been setting this up for a long time, not just to ruin their public image, but also to move away and get closer to their grandfather, who would surely grow fonder of her over time.
But it was too late. They had played all their cards and hadn’t laid a finger on her.
Aurora stood there, poised and graceful. Heath was silent beside her, but Madeline knew that no matter what evidence they produced, he would refute it.
“When did you get involved with the Fairbanks?” Madeline wondered, looking at her daughters. Sophia was a mess, and even Ethan hadn’t
comforted her.
“Aurora, let’s not air our dirty laundry in public. Let’s go home and talk,” Madeline finally conceded.
“You’re right. Let’s go home and clear things up with Dad and Grandpa,” Aurora wiped her tears and spoke softly.
“We’ll be leaving now, Mrs. Song. We’ll visit another day,” Madeline said her goodbyes.
Mrs. Song waved her off, clearly annoyed. Madeline had turned her birthday party into a circus.
As they left, Aurora felt victorious. She turned to Heath, “Did you send that guy?”
Heath smiled, “You’re racking up quite a debt with me.”
“Miss Aurora, it took a lot of effort for Heath to get that thug to accuse Sophia. I’ve been waiting outside to testify for you,” Lysander said, his smile devilish.
