Chapter 53
“Mom, what do we do? We can’t let her live with Grandpa!” Sophia asked anxiously.

“What do you mean, what do we do? I should be asking you! If you hadn’t stolen that photo and made a scene, how would you have been humiliated? You were supposed to apologize today, not throw punches!” Madeline shot back, visibly angry at her daughter’s actions.
“I couldn’t stand her arrogance, okay? She’s practically walking all over us, and now Grandpa’s taking her side. What if he gives her some of the shares? Do you know how much money we’d lose? I didn’t mean to, Mom. Can you please not be mad?” Sophia pleaded, her voice tinged with tears.
Seeing her daughter kneeling on the ground, Madeline’s heart softened. “Sophia, hang in there a bit longer. I’ll call your brother to come back and plead with Grandpa.”
“Then go, call him back. I don’t want to be kneeling here like some joke,” Sophia said, still crying.
Madeline hurried back to the villa and called Maxwell, who was at his office. Seeing his mother’s call, he frowned but picked up, “Mom, what’s up?”
“Maxwell, you need to come back. Your grandpa has made Sophia kneel outside the old house for the whole morning. No one can talk him out of it. She’s too delicate for this kind of punishment,” Madeline urged.
“Why would Grandpa make Sophia kneel?” Maxwell asked.
“Because… because… Sophia messed up and made Grandpa angry. Just come back and talk to him; he’s always had a soft spot for you,” Madeline pressed.
“Alright, I’m on my way.” Maxwell hung up, gave some instructions to his secretary, and drove back to the Pendleton residence.
Upon arriving, Maxwell didn’t go to the villa but directly to the old house. Seeing Sophia kneeling there, her face sunburned, he felt a pang of sympathy. “What did you do?”
“Maxwell, can you please talk to Grandpa? I can’t kneel here anymore!” Sophia begged.
“What did you do this time, especially after causing such a scene at the Song family’s place yesterday?” Maxwell questioned.
“It wasn’t my fault! It was all Aurora. Who knows what she’s been up to with Mr. Fairbank!” Sophia retorted.
“Sophia! Don’t cross the line! She’s still your sister!” Maxwell scolded.
“Maxwell, are you helping me or not? Do you want me to kneel here all day?” Sophia looked at him, her eyes filled with grievance.
‘Fine, I’ll talk to Grandpa, Maxwell said, walking inside.
A servant entered the living room and informed Grandpa, “Maxwell is back.”
“Ah, he must have heard about Sophia being punished and has come to plead for her,” Leen speculated.
Grandpa glanced at Aurora, who was sitting on the sofa, quietly letting Little Fish apply medicine to her. “It’s okay, it doesn’t hurt,” she said softly.

“How can it not hurt when you’re bleeding? Sophia went too far; you’re sisters, how could she hit you like that?” Little Fish said, applying the medicine carefully.
“Sisters? She’s never considered me part of the family,” Aurora replied.
“Don’t worry. No one will bully you here; Grandpa will protect you,” Little Fish reassured.
Grandpa hesitated, finding it hard to speak. Leen coughed twice, and Aurora finally looked up, “What’s going on?”
“Maxwell is back,” Leen informed.
“He’s here to plead for Sophia, right? It’s up to Grandpa,” Aurora said, lowering her head again to let Little Fish continue bandaging her.
Maxwell walked in and greeted, “Grandpa.”
“What brings you here, Maxwell?” the old man asked, feigning ignorance.
“Grandpa, I came back in a hurry yesterday and didn’t get to see you or Aurora. I apologize for that,” Maxwell said.
“Don’t worry about me; focus on your work,” the old man replied.
“Grandpa, Sophia messed up and angered you, but she’s been kneeling all morning. She’s not used to this kind of hardship. School starts in a few days; can you let her go?” Maxwell pleaded.
“Maxwell, it’s not as simple as me letting her go. She messed up,” the old man said, glancing at Aurora.
Understanding the hint, Maxwell turned to Aurora, “I apologize on behalf of Sophia for her actions.”
“Your apology is too generous, but do you know what Sophia did wrong?” Aurora asked.
“I heard about the humiliation at the Song family’s place,” Maxwell answered.
