“Young Mr, even if you’re partial to Sophia, you can’t just let her bully Aurora like this, can you? Sophia did all that crap to Aurora, and she didn’t even make a fuss. This morning, Sophia said she was coming to apologize, but instead, she beat up Aurora right outside the old house. Just look at these bruises on Aurora, even on her calf. Are you saying just because Sophia’s the pampered one, it’s okay for her to beat up Aurora?” Little Fish rambled on, not caring whether Grandpa was annoyed, fully venting for Aurora.
“Alright, Little Fish. Sophia and my brother share the same mother; I can’t compete with that. Since my brother personally pleaded for her, let’s just drop it,” Aurora said.
Aurora… Grandpa started to say.
“Grandpa, just let Sophia go. I’m fine,” Aurora interrupted, leading Little Fish out of the living room.
“Ah, Leen, tell Sophia she can go back,” the old man sighed. Little Fish’s words had struck a chord with him.
He felt incredibly guilty for how Aurora had been treated. Sophia got off easy, just kneeling for a morning, while Aurora had to suffer.
“Grandpa, I’ll go check on Aurora,” said Maxwell.
The old man waved him off, and Maxwell quickly left the living room.
“We owe Aurora so much,” the old man sighed.
“Sir, Aurora won’t hold it against you,” Leen reassured him.
“How could she not? She doesn’t have a mother, and I haven’t taken good care of her. She’s so much more understanding than Sophia,” the old man lamented.
“Sir, you know how dutiful Aurora is. You won’t mistreat her in the future,” Leen said.
Just as Maxwell left, Heath arrived. The old man immediately had him ushered in. “Heath, what brings you here?”
“I had plans to have dinner with Aurora. I’m here to pick her up,” Heath said.
The old man’s face lit up. “Then go find her in the backyard. She’s not in a good mood; don’t take it personally.”
“No worries, Aurora’s still young,” Heath said.
Maxwell found Aurora sitting alone in the gazebo, lost in thought.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know Sophia hit you,” Maxwell said, approaching her.
“So, if you knew, you wouldn’t have pleaded for her?” Aurora looked at him coldly.
“Aurora, Sophia is my sister,” Maxwell said.
“Then stand by your sister and don’t pretend to be nice to me. It’s nauseating,” Aurora retorted.

“I’ll protect you. You won’t be bullied again,” Maxwell promised.
Aurora chuckled. “You really think Sophia can bully me? If she dares to mess with me, I’ll kick her out of the Pendleton family.”
“Aurora, don’t be so hostile,” Maxwell frowned.
“You’re not in a position to lecture me,” Aurora said, turning to leave. Maxwell grabbed her wrist.
“Let me see your injuries,” he insisted.
“Let go!” Aurora snapped.
“Listen to me!” Maxwell was stubborn.

“I said, let go!” Aurora was furious.
Before Maxwell could respond, he was yanked away and thrown aside, crashing into a stone bench.
Aurora turned to see Heath, impeccably groomed and strikingly handsome. He wore a black shirt with a subtle pattern, the sleeves rolled up to reveal his well–defined forearms.
Heath pulled Aurora to her feet and stood protectively behind her.
Maxwell, already frustrated from being punched and talked back to by Aurora, was now inexplicably thrown aside. He stood up to approach Aurora, but Heath coldly spat out a single word: “Scram!”
