Chapter 57

Heath strolled leisurely into the training area, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt to reveal his well–defined forearms.

He flashed a smile at Aurora and said, “Let’s get started.”

Aurora threw a quick punch, but no matter how fast she was, Heath always seemed to dodge effortlessly, as if he was always one step ahead.

Panting, Aurora couldn’t even graze the hem of his shirt, which frustrated her to no end.

She aimed a swift punch at Heath’s face. Dodging to the side, he grabbed her wrist with his left hand. Aurora lifted her right arm for an elbow strike to his chest, only to be caught again.

With both hands restrained, Aurora instinctively used Heath’s own force to flip over, aiming a kick. Heath sidestepped again, locking her in his arms.

Her hands twisted behind her back, pressed against Heath, he leaned in, his breath slightly ragged, whispering in her ear, “Was that move taught by Coach Lyne too?”

Aurora was taken aback. She’d been fighting on instinct; that kick could’ve easily broken ribs if it had landed.

Avoiding his warm breath, she said, “No, self–taught.”

Heath didn’t press further. He let go, and Aurora turned to look into his eyes.

For some reason, even though Heath hadn’t asked anything, Aurora felt like he was close to the truth.

His all–knowing gaze unsettled her. Had he been investigating? What had he found?

All the assassins in the Abyss organization were ghosts without identities, their records only kept internally.

So, Heath shouldn’t be able to find anything on Olivia. She shouldn’t worry about that.

Lyne hurried over, saying, “Girl, you can’t fight like that. What if you hurt your boyfriend?”

Aurora was dumbfounded. Who said Heath was her boyfriend?

Aurora: ‘Coach, he’s not-

Heath: “The coach is right, you can’t fight like that.”

“See? Even your boyfriend agrees. You two aren’t just playing around,” Lyne teased.

Resigned, Aurora nodded, ‘Got it.”

Heath seemed to be in a good mood, “That’s enough training for today. Let’s go.”

Aurora nodded, grabbed her clothes from the locker room, said goodbye to Lyne, and left.

In Heath’s car, her stomach embarrassingly growled. Aurora was mortified.

Heath chuckled, “Hungry?”

“Um… had porridge for lunch… still hungry, Aurora mumbled, her face turning red.

“What do you want to eat?‘ Heath asked.

“I want to have dinner with my grandpa. Just moved in yesterday and haven’t had a meal with him yet, Aurora said.

“Alright, I’ll take you home, Heath replied.

“Why are you so skilled?” Aurora was curious. She felt that even Olivia, who had trained for years, would barely match Heath.

“Trained,” was Heath’s terse reply, clearly not wanting to discuss it further.

Aurora wisely didn’t press.

The car took a turn, and Heath parked, “Heard from Kieran that the chestnut cakes at the corner are good. Want to grab some?”

Aurora nodded and got out. When it was her turn to order, she said, “One chestnut cake, please.”

The vendor packed it and said, “six.”

Reaching for her pocket, Aurora realized she’d left her wallet at the gym.

Heath paid the vendor, took the chestnut cake, and said, “Let’s go.”

Back in the car, he handed her the cake, “You’re racking up quite a debt.”

That reminded her of the dress, “Was the dress your doing?”

“Yes,” Heath said, driving.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Aurora asked.

“I told your grandpa. Didn’t know he didn’t tell you,” Heath replied.

“Was the dress expensive? Aurora inquired.

“It’s fine, Heath said, nonchalantly.

Aurora rolled her eyes. To Heath, the heir of the city’s wealthiest family, a dress was nothing.

She chewed on her chestnut cake in silence. Soon, they arrived at the Pendleton residence.

Getting out of the car, Heath said, “Find another way to deal with them. Don’t get hit.”

“Got it,” Aurora nodded.

“Aurora.”

“Hmm?”

“I have a flight at 2 p.m. the day after tomorrow,” Heath said.

“Oh… Aurora looked down.

“You can try to make decisions about me,” Heath added.

Aurora was too flustered to speak. Heath reached out to tousle her bangs before getting back into his car and driving away.

Aurora watched until his taillights disappeared, then turned and walked back to the old house.
