The next day, Aurora was at home when her phone buzzed. It was a call from Jasper, and he sounded super anxious. Aurora, can you come over to the villa? Something’s wrong with Amy!”
“What do you mean something’s wrong? Aurora stood up from the couch, slipping on her shoes as she talked.
“She’s had a high fever since yesterday, and she’s unconscious now. She even coughed up blood! Jasper blurted out.
“Coughed up blood? Hold on, I’m on my way!” Aurora dashed out the door.
Just as she reached the entrance, she ran into Leen.
“Miss Aurora, where are you off to in such a hurry?” Leen asked.
“I’ve got an emergency. I’m taking Grandpa’s Audi from the garage,” she replied.
“You should really get your driver’s license soon. Driving without one will upset your grandpa,” Leen cautioned.
“I know, I know,” Aurora said, speeding off in her car.
When she arrived at the villa, she practically sprinted inside. Jasper saw her and immediately led her further in.
“Amy’s in her room. Carly and Jay are looking after her. We just got out of the Abyss and can’t show our faces publicly. You’ll have to figure something out, Jasper said, clearly worried. These were people they’d been through hell and back with, after all.
Aurora entered the room to find Amy lying on the bed, looking lifeless and pale.
“Aurora, you’ve got to think of something. This isn’t just a simple fever,” Jay urged.
Given they couldn’t risk going to a hospital, Aurora had no choice but to call Lysander Fane.
“Miss Aurora? Lysanders voice sounded cheerful on the other end.

“Dr. Face, are you available? I have a patient who needs urgent care, Aurora said.
“Tell me where, and I’ll be there, Lysander agreed readily.
“West Suburb Villas, Building A2, Aurora quickly gave the address.
After hanging up, Jasper seemed hesitant. Aurora, can we trust this doctor?
“I don’t know, but he’s the best I know. When he arrives, stay out of sight. We can’t afford any complications, Aurora advised.
About fifteen minutes later, the sound of a car engine announced Lysander’s arrival Jasper and the others retreated to their rooms, and Aurora went downstairs to open the door. Come in
“What kind of patient warrants Miss Aurora’s personal attention in a suburban villa? Lysander inquired.

“Never mind that, just see the patient,” Aurora led him upstairs to Amy’s room.

After examining Amy and even taking her pulse, Lysander frowned. “It seems like a fever, but I’d recommend moving her to a hospital for further tests.”
“That’s not an option. She has to stay here,” Aurora insisted.
Lysander gave her a puzzled look. “Alright, I’ll draw some blood for tests and come back tomorrow.”
Aurora nodded, watching as Lysander drew blood and then escorted him out of the villa.
The rest of the day, Aurora stayed at the villa, watching Carly and the others take turns caring for Amy. All she could do was wait for Lysander’s test results.
In the afternoon, Amy suddenly began coughing up large amounts of blood and went into shock. Within minutes, her heart stopped.
As cries from upstairs reached her, Aurora rushed up to find Amy lifeless.
Just then, Lysander called. “Miss Aurora, the blood tests show an unknown virus rapidly destroying her immune system. You should move her to a sterile hospital room.”
“No need,” Aurora clenched her teeth and hung up.
“Who can explain why Amy had a virus in her system?” Aurora looked at everyone.
“It was Isabella Whitmore. She’s had access to the Abyss’s biomedical labs, and she’s the only one who’s been there with Amy recently, Carly said.
Jasper kicked a chair over, filling the room with a heavy atmosphere of sorrow.
“I’ll contact the funeral home for Amy. You all need to draw blood for tests. We can’t afford another incident,” Aurora said, leaving the villa.
Back in her car, Aurora sat in the driver’s seat, pounding the steering wheel as tears streamed down her face.
Mike, Arno, Amy…
Isabella had taken too many lives around her, and she was still stuck in this tiny Pendleton family, powerless.
She was too weak.
Aurora drove to a boxing gym and trained until nightfall, exhausting her coach and breaking a sandbag.
She had nowhere to vent her guilt and powerlessness, feelings that threatened to consume her.
Meanwhile, Heath sat at the airport. Kieran reminded him, “Sir, it’s time to board.”
Heath opened his phone, still silent in his palm, devoid of messages or calls.

Chapter 61
Had he not made himself clear?
He’d told Aurora he’d be back in the capital by this afternoon.
He’d even told her his flight details, expecting her to at least see him off.
But she hadn’t come.
Not even a call or a message, as if whether he left or not had nothing to do with her.
Would they even meet again? She seemed not to care.
Kieran grew anxious. Clearly, the boss was waiting for Aurora. “Should I call and ask if she’s been held up?”
“No need. Let’s go,” Heath said, his voice hardening.
He’d done enough, offered help, made his stance clear. But Aurora had not responded.
So, there was no need to continue this.
What could possibly hold up an 18–year–old girl?
Even if something had, couldn’t she find the time to make a call?
Heath turned off his phone, stood up, straightened his clothes, and left the waiting area.
