The next day, Heath arrived at the Pendleton residence to pick up Aurora for a trip to the airport.

“Sweetheart, take good care of yourself in the capital, alright? Don’t make me worry,” her grandpa said, full of concern.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa, I got it,” Aurora assured him.

“Heath, I’m entrusting Aurora to you. Take good care of her,” the old man told Heath.

Heath nodded, “You can count on me, sir.”

The old man looked a bit down as he held her hand, “Go on, go on. I’ll come visit you in the capital soon.”

As Aurora got into the car, her eyes reddened. Her grandpa looked so pitiful, like a forlorn old man, it broke her heart.

Heath patted her hand but said nothing.

After a three–hour flight, Aurora was practically dozing off.

Heath drove to an apartment complex and led her into the elevator. “Where is this?” Aurora asked.

“Vista Apartments. You’ll be staying here for now,” Heath replied.

“Alright,” Aurora followed him in.

Heath turned on the lights like he owned the place, “You’ll be staying in the guest room.”

Aurora was puzzled, “Guest room? What about the master bedroom?”

Heath glanced at her, “I’ll be in there.”

“You’re taking the master bedroom??” Aurora was flustered.

Leaning against the door frame, Heath smirked, “Or maybe you’d like the master bedroom?”

Aurora pushed him away, “What the heck, Heath? You’re loaded, you must have more than one apartment. Can I stay somewhere else?‘

Heath shot her a look, “Sorry, this is the only apartment I have,”

“Then I’ll stay in a hotel! Aurora declared.

“Got money for a hotel, Miss Pendleton? How about paying back my 3 million first?” Heath retorted.

Aurora was at a loss for words. Was she ever going to get past this 3–million debt?

“Fine, I’ll rent my own place!” she said.

Chapter 75

Heath raised an eyebrow, “I heard top students can do everything except cook. Planning to starve?”

Aurora was speechless. She really couldn’t cook.

Heath went back to the master bedroom, “If you don’t want the guest room, you’re welcome to move into the master.”

Aurora quickly grabbed her luggage and dashed into the bedroom. After some quick tidying, she lay on the bed and soon fell asleep.

Heath came out to the living room and waited for a while. Seeing that Aurora didn’t come out, he went into the bedroom and found her curled up on the bed, sound asleep.

He covered her with a blanket and turned off the air conditioning; it was still a bit chilly in the capital.

When Aurora woke up, she was so hungry her stomach was growling. She mumbled, “Little Fish?”

After a moment of silence, she remembered she was in the capital now.

Her clothes were all wrinkled from sleeping. She took a shower, changed into some casual clothes, and walked out of the bedroom barefoot.

The delicious smell wafting from the kitchen caught her attention. Rubbing her eyes, she saw Heath cooking.

He was dressed in gray, looking every bit the domestic god as he skillfully seasoned and stirred the food.

Aurora was stunned, “Heath?”

Heath glanced at her, put down his spatula, and walked over to her. He picked her up horizontally.

Aurora kicked her legs, “What are you doing?”

He set her down on the sofa, looking a bit annoyed, “Why aren’t you wearing shoes?”

Aurora pouted, “I couldn’t find any slippers…”

Heath sighed. He’d never had a woman over; how could he have thought to prepare women’s slippers?

“Sit tight. We’ll buy some after we eat,” he said.

“Okay, Aurora nodded obediently.

Heath returned to the kitchen, his mind a bit foggy. For so many years, he’d been alone, from the military to overseas to the Fairbank family, never feeling a hint of warmth.

But today, this radiant girl was sitting across from him, eating the food he cooked, smiling at him.

Life felt good.

All the cold loneliness of the past seemed to vanish, leaving only the girl before him.

Chapter 75

After eating, Heath took her to the supermarket to buy slippers.

It was Aurora’s first time in the capital, and even the supermarket felt exciting. She hopped around, touching this and looking at that, while Heath pushed the shopping cart behind her.

They didn’t just buy slippers; they also got a ton of snacks.

Back at Vista, Aurora was about to dash back to her room when Heath pulled her into a hug. After two minutes, he finally let her go despite her protests.

Aurora exclaimed, “Heath!”

Heath replied, “Yes?”

Aurora said, “Don’t hug me!”

Heath responded, “Fine, pay me back.”

Aurora was speechless. When you’re under someone’s roof, you have to play by their rules.

Annoyed, she went back to her room to sleep.

The next morning, Aurora got up, put on some light makeup, and changed into professional attire. When she walked into the dining room, breakfast was already on the table.

The housekeeper greeted her warmly, “You must be Miss Pendleton?”

Aurora nodded.

“Just call me Gloria. I’ll prepare meals before leaving each day,” the housekeeper said.

“Thank you, Gloria, Aurora smiled.

Just as she sat down, Heath walked in, “Starting your internship today?”

“Yep, the sooner I bring down my high–and–mighty sister, the better,” Aurora grinned mischievously.

Til drop you off after breakfast,‘ Heath offered.

Aurora nodded, “This isn’t your company, is it?”

Heath didn’t even look up as he cut his bacon, ‘If it were my company, do you think I’d sign Evelyn Pendleton?”

Aurora shrugged, “Why not? She’s gorgeous. It’d be normal to sign her.”

Heath looked up at her, ‘You’re prettier.”

Aurora blushed and quickly looked down at her food. She couldn’t win an argument with Heath, so she focused on eating.
