Kieran nodded and made his exit, leaving Aurora feeling increasingly uneasy. She was supposed to be protected by the highest level of secrecy as a member of the Abyss, but Heath’s relentless determination made her question whether he could actually uncover her secret
identity.
What would she do if he found someone with a face identical to hers? Would she have to lie like she did with Jasper Bennett, claiming that the infamous assassin was her twin sister?
Deep down, she was resistant to the idea. Subconsciously, she didn’t want to deceive Heath.
Aurora turned her head to look at Heath, her eyes filled with hesitation. “Heath…”
“Yes?” he responded, his attention now fully on her.
“What would you do if one day you found out that I’m not the person you think I am?” she asked, her voice tinged with vulnerability.
Heath put down the files he was holding and looked deeply into her eyes. Her eyes were a whirlpool of conflicting emotions–confusion, insecurity, and hesitation.
He continued to stare at her, making her feel increasingly uncomfortable. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. “Well? Are you going to say something?”
Heath finally broke his silence. “I’ve never had any preconceived notions of what you should be like.”
“What do you mean?” Aurora was genuinely puzzled.
Heath returned to his files, his attention now divided. “I’ve known you for less than a year. There are many aspects of you that I’m still unfamiliar with. So, I’d rather take the time to discover the real you, rather than rely on my imagination to fill in the blanks.”
Aurora found that Heath, who was usually so cold and aloof, had a way of saying the simplest things that struck her to the core.
Like a sniper–precise, steady, and hitting the mark every single time.
Aurora felt a lump forming in her throat. “Heath, the truth is, I—”
Before she could finish her sentence, the doorbell rang, interrupting the moment.
Heath smiled faintly. “That must be Lysander Fane, I’ll go get the door.”
Heath stood up and walked over to the door. Lysander, dressed casually and sporting gold–framed glasses, breezed past him and made a beeline for the living room.
Upon seeing Aurora curled up on the sofa, Lysander’s face broke into a grin. “I knew it! Heath, you’ve kidnapped her again, haven’t you?”
Heath: “…”
Aurora: “…”

Lysander sat down on the sofa, opening his medical kit with a flourish. “Ah, the irony of it all. Here I am, a renowned doctor from a prestigious medical family, the head of Fairview Medical Center, with countless patients waiting for my expertise. And yet, I find myself summoned here repeatedly by Heath, all for the sake of our precious Miss Aurora.”
Aurora couldn’t help but chuckle. Lysander had a knack for lightening the mood.
Heath shot him a withering look. “Are you trying to get Fairview Medical Center shut down?”
Lysander immediately clamped his mouth shut, lifted the throw blanket, and began to examine Aurora’s foot.
Aurora leaned in and whispered, “Why are you so afraid of him?”
Lysander whispered back, “Because he’s a major investor in Fairview. A major one!”
Heath: “…”
Did they really think he couldn’t hear them from that distance?
After a thorough examination, Lysander looked up, clearly unimpressed. “This is just a minor burn from hot water. A little ointment will do the trick. Did you really call me, a medical doctor with overseas experience, just to apply some ointment?”
Heath looked at him, his face stern and serious. “But Aurora is in pain.”
Aurora: “…”
In reality, she wasn’t in that much pain. She had only pretended to be, so she could eavesdrop on Kieran’s report about Olivia.
