Snapping back to reality, Aurora managed to say, “Come in. Heath is in his study.”

Eamon stepped inside, a bottle of red wine in hand. Right behind him were Lysander and Alaric.

Aurora pushed open the door to the study and announced, “Lysander and the guys have arrived.”

Alaric’s eyes widened in disbelief, “She’s bold enough to interrupt Heath just like that?”

Lysander shrugged, completely unfazed, “What’s the big deal? Heath’s so into her, he might as well be eating out of her hand.”

Heath emerged from the study, casting a sidelong glance at Lysander, “Did your hospital go bankrupt or something?”

Lysander turned and dramatically hugged Alaric, sobbing, “Look at this! What kind of friend do I have? All he does is exploit me day in and day out!”

Alaric patted Lysander’s head and casually asked, ‘So, what’s for dinner?”

Heath: “How about we just order takeout?”

A moment of awkward silence fell upon everyone: Alaric, Eamon, and Lysander.

Heath looked up, slightly annoyed, “You guys were the ones who insisted on coming over, and now you’re expecting me to cook?”

Caught in the awkwardness, Aurora timidly raised her hand, “Um, how about hot pot?”

Lysander and Alaric immediately raised their hands in enthusiastic agreement, “Totally down for that!”

And so, Heath and Aurora started preparing the hot pot at home, while Lysander, Alaric, and Eamon settled in the living room for a game

of cards.

After a few rounds, Alaric shouted, “Heath, get over here! Lysander’s all out of chips!”

Heath walked out of the kitchen, a playful smile on his face, “Eamon, you better not be going easy on them.”

Eamon chuckled, “I’m beat. You take over for a bit.”

Heath sat down to fill in for Eamon at the card table. Eamon, in turn, sauntered into the kitchen.

Aurora heard footsteps and assumed it was Heath, “Could you help me slice some sweet potatoes?”

When she didn’t hear a response, she turned around and found Eamon leaning against the kitchen doorway, staring at her with a fixed

gaze.

Her hand trembled, causing the sweet potato to drop and roll to Eamon’s feet.

Eamon bent down to pick it up and handed it back to her, “You seem to get quite nervous every time you see me, Miss Aurora.”

Aurora turned her back to him, “Well, anyone would get nervous if Mr. Ironside was staring at them like that.”

Eamon let out a soft chuckle, “I apologize for the intrusion. May I ask, have we met somewhere before?”

Aurora’s body tensed up, “How could that be possible? I’ve spent my entire life in Seaview. Are you from there?”

“No, I’m from the capital. But I’ve been living in the U.S. for the past few years. Have you ever been there?” Eamon inquired.

Aurora shook her head, “No, this is my first time leaving Seaview.”

Before Eamon could continue, Heath walked into the kitchen, “What are you two chatting about?”

Eamon offered a casual smile, “Nothing much, really. I just thought she looked familiar, so we were making small talk.”

Heath: “Lysander and the others are calling you back for the card game.”

Eamon nodded and exited the kitchen.

Heath moved closer to help Aurora clean up, “What did Eamon talk to you about?‘

Aurora shook her head, “Nothing much. He was just asking if I’ve ever been to the U.S.”

Heath: “Eamon and I grew up together. His family is involved in military affairs, so he tends to be more cautious around strangers. If he said anything that made you uncomfortable, don’t take it to heart.

Aurora simply nodded, choosing to remain silent.

She found herself pondering. If Eamon’s family was involved in military affairs, then why had Heath appeared at that smoky, chaotic ball two years ago? Was Heath really just a simple CEO?
