Chapter 98
Aurora sat on the sofa for a good ten minutes before finally taking out her phone to call her grandpa.
“Ah, so the young lady remembers her old grandpa, huh?” he teased her.
“Grandpa, I call you every week, you know!” Aurora responded, a bit exasperated.
“So, what’s going on?‘ her grandpa inquired.
“When are you moving to the capital?” Aurora asked.
“In a few days, I suppose. The villa I bought is still being tidied up. I’ll move in a couple of days,” he replied.
I’ll move in first, then! We can live together when you get here,” Aurora quickly suggested.
Her grandpa paused for a moment. “Did you have a fight with Heath?”
“No,” Aurora answered.
“Then why the sudden urge to move back?” he questioned.
“Grandpa! Am I not your real granddaughter? Aren’t you happy that I want to move back home?” Aurora asked, feigning a pout.
“Alright, alright, if you want to come back, then come back. Do you think I’d let you go hungry?” her grandpa said, his voice tinged with affection.

After settling things with her grandpa, Aurora hung up the phone, went back to her room, and started packing her things. She hailed a cab and headed for her grandpa’s new villa. The villa was right next to her father Sebastian’s house. She didn’t go to her father’s place but went straight to her grandpa’s. A few housekeepers were cleaning the house. As she walked in, they greeted her, “Good day, Aurora.”
“Is my room ready?” Aurora asked.
One of the housekeepers led her upstairs and said, “The rooms are mostly ready. Which bedroom would you like to stay in?”
Aurora opened one of the rooms. The large floor–to–ceiling window let the evening sun pour in. She smiled, “I’ll take this one.”
The housekeeper moved to take her luggage, but Aurora declined, “You go on with your work; I can manage on my own.”
She felt a bit stifled inside. What Mr. Fairbank had said wasn’t wrong. Heath would eventually want to get married and have children, and she had never thought about these things. She turned off her phone, flopped down on the bed, and didn’t want to talk to anyone.
As the sky gradually darkened, Heath returned to his home. He knocked on the door, and it was Gloria who greeted him. “Good evening,
sir.”

Heath nodded but didn’t hear Aurora’s familiar laughter from the living room. He walked in to find it empty. He went to Aurora’s room, pushed the door open, and found it empty as well, even the bed was neatly made.
“Where’s Aurora?’ Heath asked.
Gloria looked puzzled, “When I came to cook this afternoon, Miss Aurora was already gone.”
Heath tried calling her, but her phone was off. He immediately called Kieran, “Find out what happened. Aurora is missing!”
Kieran was scared out of his wits and immediately came over to check the security footage. He was stunned.
He cautiously reported to Heath, “Your dad came by today, and afterward, Miss Aurora left with her suitcase…”
Heath’s face turned ashen. He stood up and walked out, ignoring Kieran’s plea, “Boss, this isn’t the time to confront your dad!”
Heath drove away, leaving Kieran standing there. He arrived at the Fairbank residence. His father was sitting in the living room, talking to Thane. The quiet night was shattered by the screeching brakes of an expensive car that came to a halt in the middle of the Fairbank’s lawn. A man stepped out and strode into the living room.
Mr. Fairbank looked up and saw Heath. “So you do know how to come back?”
Heath smirked, “If your reach wasn’t so long, I wouldn’t have known to come back.”
“Heath! Mind your tone. I am your father!” Mr. Fairbank said angrily.
“A father? A man who abandoned his wife and child has the audacity to call himself a father?” Heath retorted, looking down on him.
“You… Have you ever considered this place your home? Have I ever mistreated you since you returned?” Mr. Fairbank was so angry he started coughing.
“Since the day my mother died, I’ve had no home,” Heath said, his voice tinged with mockery.
Mr. Fairbank coughed even harder. Thane tried to soothe him and took the opportunity to complain, “Uncle, can’t you just let it go? Do you have to argue with grandpa?”
Heath glanced at him, “Thane, don’t think I’m unaware of your little schemes. Stay out of my way, or else.”
Thane’s face turned pale, and he lowered his head, not daring to speak.
Mr. Fairbank sighed, disappointed. Heath was the most capable among the Fairbanks, and Thane, although obedient, was simply not up to
the task.
Heath looked at his father, “What did you say to her?”
Mr. Fairbank sighed, “I told her you’d eventually want to get married and have kids. Why force someone who’s not interested? Heath, think this through. If she really cared for you, she would have said so. Why chase someone who’s not interested?”

“This is none of your business. You should worry about your precious grandson. If he speaks out of turn again, I’ll have his tongue cut out tomorrow, Heath said, turning around and ignoring his father’s calls as he left the living room.
Heath drove aimlessly. Kieran had found out that Aurora had moved to her grandpa’s and would be living there when her grandpa arrived in the capital. Knowing she was safe and where she was didn’t make the decision any easier for him.
Should he go find her?
He had always been the one trying to get closer, to understand her, to treat her well in every way he could. But all Aurora did was evade him. She had built an invisible wall around herself, keeping everyone at arm’s length. He could see her but never really touch her.
Mr. Fairbank had only mentioned that he would eventually want to get married and have kids, and she left. So she had probably never thought about these things. Or perhaps, she had never considered that the man in her future would be him, Heath Fairbank.
Heath’s car remained parked outside the villa for an hour before he finally drove back home. For the first time, he chose not to take the
initiative.
