Josefina turned just in time to see Livia strut out in her new outfit.
“Josie, I've got to dash. Catch you later!” Livia blurted out as she practically flew out of the room.
Seeing Livia's swift exit, Finley quickly followed suit, rushing after her.
“Makiko’s already taken the gift back home. Do we need to drop by their place?” Finley asked, slightly winded.
“Nah, let’s skip it. I’ll drive you back to your folks’ place,” Oliver suggested.
Even though Oliver hadn’t gotten any calls from the Harrison family, he figured it was about time to head back.
He took Josefina’s hand. “We’ve got everything ready. Let’s head home for dinner. I’ve already let Mom and Dad know, and they’re over the moon.”
Talking about her parents made Josefina’s heart swell.
Having spent so much time back at her own place, Josefina had seamlessly slipped back into the family groove.
...
Oliver drove them back, and as they pulled up, they saw the whole Harrison clan lined up, waiting.
Josefina’s heart fluttered, and she ran over to them.
Hattie hurried to meet her. “Josie, no running! Things aren’t the same anymore. Take it easy, okay?”
Josefina looped her arm through Hattie’s and laughed, “Mom, I’ve missed you so much.”
Hattie’s eyes shimmered with tears as they walked inside together. “We’ve all missed you—your grandpa, grandma, dad, and brothers. Without you, the house feels so empty. Everyone comes home looking like they’ve lost their best friend.”
Josefina glanced at her brothers and joked, “Dorian, Reid, Calix, maybe you guys should settle down. A couple of kids running around would definitely brighten things up.”
Calix threw his hands up in mock surrender, “Sis, how could you join Mom and Dad in the ‘get married’ campaign? Aren’t I still your favorite brother?”
Reid chimed in, “You’re not her favorite—I am!”
