The three of them turned their heads at the same time.
Finley dashed over, his blonde hair gleaming in the sunlight, looking quite striking. Oliver felt like tossing Logan aside and, honestly, felt the same about Finley now. Both of them seemed to know exactly how to get under his skin.
Noticing the storm brewing on Oliver's face, Finley quickly turned his attention to Logan. With a friendly pat on the shoulder, he said, "Hey buddy, crashing at Oliver's for dinner, huh?"
Logan shot back, "I'm not crashing. My mentor invited me. Who invited you?"
Finley was momentarily caught off guard. He'd just shown up! Not exactly a grand entrance.
Recovering quickly, Finley said, "I heard the cactus is blooming. Why don’t we go check it out?"
He figured this would give Oliver and Josefina some alone time, and Oliver would probably thank him for it later. Grabbing Logan by the arm, he added, "C'mon, it's a sight to see. Perfect for some Instagram shots."
Even though Logan didn’t have an Instagram account yet, he was intrigued. "Let's go see it now."
The two of them, arms slung around each other's shoulders like old friends, headed off to see the blooming cactus.
Josefina felt uneasy about Logan being led away by Finley, worried he might lead him into trouble. "Oliver, you go back and enjoy the meal. I’ll just check on them," she said, starting to walk.
Oliver caught up with her, "Josie, take it easy, don’t rush."
...
Oliver caught up to Josefina, and together they walked leisurely towards the cactus garden. As soon as they arrived, they were shocked to see Logan pushing Finley into a patch of cacti.
Josefina gasped, "Oh my gosh! Finley’s poor backside!"
"Logan, stop that!" she shouted, rushing over in a panic.
Finley, sitting amidst the prickly cacti, looked as pale as a ghost. "Right now, I feel like singing," he said weakly.
Oliver quipped, "You're not in pain? And you want to sing?"
Finley, with a melodramatic flair, began, "My bloom is gone, the ground is cold, my spirit has grown old..."
