Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 1062

Josefina let out a laugh, a mix of disbelief and a hint of irony in her voice. Just then, Percy walked in, catching the end of their heartfelt conversation. He tried to stay composed, offering a polite smile. “Logan’s organs are slowly failing.”

Josefina jumped up, her eyes wide with shock, even though she'd tried to prepare herself for the news. It was hard to wrap her head around it. When she first met Logan, he reminded her of a scruffy little puppy, abandoned and hurt, tugging at her heartstrings. Accepting this reality was unbearable.

Sensing her turmoil, Oliver wrapped his arm around her shoulders, offering her some comfort.

“Is there anything we can do? What if we dig up the original experiment reports? Maybe those folks have made some progress by now?” Josefina asked, her voice tinged with desperation.

Percy sighed, shaking his head slightly. “Even if they have, it would just mean more inhumane experiments. We’re not going to find any real data easily.”

A heavy silence filled the room as Josefina fell quiet, lost in her thoughts.

...

When Logan woke up, the sterile smell of disinfectant hit him, and he wrinkled his nose in distaste.

“Logan, you’re awake,” Josefina said softly.

Logan sat up, seeing his mentor’s familiar face, then glanced over at Oliver. His mood soured almost instantly. What was this guy doing here again?

“He heard you fainted and came to check on you. He even brought a box full of snacks,” Josefina gestured toward the box on the floor. “All your favorites.”

Skeptical but curious, Logan climbed out of bed and rummaged through the box, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.

“Thanks, didn’t expect you to be so thoughtful. Not bad,” he admitted, albeit grudgingly.

Oliver chuckled, “I appreciate the compliment.”

“Logan, do you know Makiko?” Josefina asked.

Logan paused, setting aside the bag of chips, and settled back onto the bed. His cheeks were gaunt, as if he hadn’t had a decent meal in ages, evoking a sense of vulnerability.

“I don’t know her,” Logan replied flatly.
