Josefina and Oliver strolled into the room, catching everyone off guard, especially Makiko and Cole. They hadn't expected to see them, let alone thought Josefina and Oliver would have the nerve to show up.
Makiko stayed quiet, looking like she'd just seen a ghost.
"Oliver, Josie, you're here," Brandon said, his deep voice carrying a hint of urgency. What were these kids thinking, showing up here?
"Grandpa, I need to chat with Cole and Makiko. We've got some things to clear up," Josefina said.
Cole had a feeling that Josefina was here to apologize. Logan had really messed up, and with him out of the picture, it was up to Josefina to try and make things right.
Just as Cole was about to brush it off, Josefina hit them with a curveball. "Makiko, do you know Logan?"
Brandon looked completely bewildered. "Hasn't Makiko been in Japan this whole time? Has she ever even set foot in the States?"
Cole chimed in, "Dad, Makiko's always been in Japan. She's never been here."
Josefina continued, "That's odd. Logan, bless his heart, he might be a bit slow, but he's got no malice."
She added, "Grandpa, you've met Logan. You should remember him. He might be a bit simple, but he wouldn't get angry without a reason."
Brandon mused, "Oh yeah, Logan's a good kid. Pure-hearted."
Cole was skeptical.
He'd seen it himself, and now they wanted him to just forget that?
Not a chance!
"Sister-in-law, it was the first time Makiko and I met Logan. I really want to know what set him off."
Josefina explained, "The doctor said Logan reacted because he was triggered. I'm trying to figure it out too."
Makiko finally spoke, her voice soft and a bit shaky, "I've never seen him before."
Josefina sighed, "Seeing Makiko just reminds me of Logan. That poor boy is still in the hospital, unconscious. The doctors say he's protecting himself by not waking up."
