Evan’s words hit Ayala like a ton of bricks, and she quickly shot Mandy a look that screamed “danger ahead.”
“Mandy, honey, go apologize to your dad.”
Evan chimed in, “And don’t forget Josefina! If you don’t smooth things over with her, life’s gonna get real tough.”
Mandy stood there, dumbfounded. She had no clue that messing with Josefina was like stepping on a landmine.
Evan added, “Mandy, it’s up to you. I don’t care about the company, as long as you’re okay with it.”
Mandy felt trapped. She still dreamed of living the high life without any worries. With school starting soon, she couldn’t bear the thought of being looked down upon.
...
Josefina was in Oliver’s office when Hattie called.
“Josie, your uncle’s here. He wants to bring Mandy over to apologize and take us out to dinner. What do you think?”
If Josefina wasn’t feeling it, Hattie wouldn’t push her. It was totally her call.
Without a second thought, Josefina said, “I’ll be there, Mom. Just text me the time and place, and I’ll come straight over.”
“Josie, don’t feel pressured. If you don’t want to go, nobody can make you.”
“Mom, it’s fine. I really do want to go.” She had some things to discuss with Mandy.
After hanging up, Josefina turned to Oliver. “I can’t have dinner with you tonight; I’ve got to handle something.”
Oliver had no choice but to agree.
He pulled a small gift box from his drawer and walked over to Josefina.
“Josie, I got you something.”
Josefina recognized the watch immediately. It was a part of a couple’s set she had seen online, worth a small fortune.
“Josie, give me your hand.”
Oliver gently took her hand and slipped the watch onto her wrist.
“Oliver, you don’t have to keep giving me gifts. You’ve given me so much already, I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you.”
“Oliver, wasn’t Grandpa Brandon expecting you tonight? You should go spend some time with him.”
Seeing he couldn’t change her mind, Oliver reluctantly agreed.
Josefina slung her bag over her shoulder, her ponytail bouncing as she ran, tugging at Oliver’s heartstrings.
Suddenly, she turned around and waved. “Oliver, head back soon, okay? Bye~”
His Josie, always so adorable.
Oliver drove off with a content smile.
Meanwhile, Shay and Finley were having dinner together when Shay noticed Josefina. Following Josefina’s gaze, she spotted Oliver.
The watch on Josefina’s wrist was like a dagger to Shay’s heart.
She’d heard rumors that Oliver had bought a couple’s watch set earlier that day, and now she saw one on Josefina’s wrist.
Oliver really was head over heels for Josefina!
