Josefina held Oliver back, her voice a mix of worry and frustration. "Oliver, take a breather, will you? If you keep at it, you're gonna land yourself in real trouble."
Oliver glared at Rowan, eyes blazing with fury. If Josefina hadn't been there, he might have gone all the way.
Rowan, nursing his injuries, beat a hasty retreat, clearly spooked by the idea of ending up dead at Oliver's hands.
"He's gone, Oliver. Let it go. If you kill him, you're the one who's gonna pay the price. It's just not worth it," Josefina reasoned, trying to pull him back from the edge.
Oliver's response was cold as ice. "I could toss him in the river and be done with it."
Josefina couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all, even in the tense moment. "And you think he's the only one hanging around the cemetery today? What if someone catches you in the act?"
She managed to calm him down, and they carried on with their visit to Oliver's mother's grave.
...
Rowan stumbled out of the cemetery and slumped into his car, his face a swollen testament to the brawl.
"How'd it go?" he asked the person on the other end of the line.
"It's done."
Rowan grunted, somewhat satisfied. "Good, at least the beating wasn't for nothing."
Seeing his battered reflection in the rearview mirror reignited his anger. "Oliver, that jerk actually dared to do this to me!"
Without further conversation, he instructed his driver to head back.
Meanwhile, Oliver and Josefina wrapped up their visit and left the cemetery.
Sitting in the car, Josefina turned to Oliver, puzzled. "Why would Rowan show up at the cemetery today? He must've known you'd be here. Was he waiting for you on purpose?"
Her words hit Oliver like a light bulb moment. "Josie, you're spot on."
He quickly sent a text to have someone tail Rowan, curious about what he was plotting.
Putting his phone away, Oliver reassured her with a gentle tone, "Josie, don't sweat it. It's really no big deal."
Josefina nodded, and Oliver drove her to school.
Josefina's words reflected his own concerns. "You're right. We need to check this out. Who knows if Sydney's already got her claws in someone else?"
"I'll take care of the investigation," Oliver assured her.
"Alright, I gotta get to class. Catch you later," Josefina said, hanging up before heading to her lecture.
...
Sydney and Rowan were stuck at home, under house arrest, unable to leave.
"This is your fault," Rowan fumed. "Why did you make me go to the cemetery? Now we've blown our cover, and we're trapped here. What's the plan now?"
Rowan's anger was intense, but Sydney had to deal with both his wrath and her own discomfort. "Chill, Rowan. Let me think something through."
"And what exactly can you come up with?" Rowan snapped, his patience wearing thin.
Despite Rowan's anger and her own pain, Sydney knew they were in a serious bind.
