Josefina was nibbling on her oatmeal, fully aware there was more to Brandon’s visit than met the eye. Oliver had tangled with Rowan at the cemetery, only to be outsmarted. Was Brandon here to thank her for holding Oliver back, or for giving him a heads-up in the first place? Either way, Josefina thought the gifts Brandon brought were way over the top.
"Grandpa Brandon is being too generous. The gifts are extravagant, and there are just so many. I really need to think of a proper way to reciprocate."
Annika chuckled, "Brandon practically considers you family already, like he wants to move his whole world over to you. Ms. Josefina, Brandon really has a soft spot for you."
"I know Grandpa Brandon's being kind, but I can't just accept all these pricey gifts," Josefina sighed, setting her spoon aside. She texted Oliver, asking him to drop by and take some of the gifts back.
Oliver replied: Josie, if Grandpa decided to gift you these, just accept them. It’s his way of showing he cares.
Josefina: Oliver, it’s not just the thought; it’s a lot of money. I shouldn’t accept such lavish gifts without earning them. It makes me uneasy.
Oliver: Uneasy? How about I come over and give you a massage to help you relax?
Josefina: "......"
Josefina: Oliver, I’m trying to have a serious conversation. Can you stop joking around??
Oliver: Josie, this is serious. If you’re uneasy, I’m concerned about you.
She was at a loss for words, feeling exasperated. Oliver was infuriating!
Josefina put her phone down and went back to her oatmeal.
"Annika, you have no idea. Oliver is just... impossible!"
Annika was frantically signaling Josefina with her eyes. Following Annika’s gaze, Josefina turned around.
Josefina: ??
When did Oliver sneak in?
Annika slipped away with a cheeky smile, not wanting to spoil the moment.
"Josie, I’m impossible?" Oliver grinned.
As Oliver ate, his eyes were on Josefina. "Josie, thanks for looking out for me."
Josefina sat beside him, sharing the meal.
"Grandpa Brandon brought too many things, and they’re too precious. Oliver, you should tell him to ease up on the gifts. Take some back with you today."
"Josie, if Grandpa wants to give you something, just accept it. What’s not given now will eventually be yours."
"But taking so many gifts now just feels off." Josefina admitted, feeling uneasy.
"Josie, don’t sweat it. Whatever our family gives you, just take it. If anyone dares to make a fuss, I’ll deal with them!"
Josefina chuckled, "Am I supposed to accept everything?"
Oliver nodded seriously, "Yes, everything. Including me, you’ve got to accept me too."
