"Oliver, every day it feels like you're either flirting with me or on your way to. What's your deal here? Marriage? Let me tell you, that's not happening anytime soon."
Oliver set his fork down, his eyes softening. "Josie, how about you just take me as I am for now? We can leave out the marriage part for a bit."
Josefina was momentarily speechless.
"I'm not just going to 'take you.' That's a pretty big ask."
Oliver gently took her hand. "What's the cost of accepting me? Let me know so I can get ready for it."
Josefina couldn't help but laugh. "You're something else, really."
She pulled her hand back and stood up. "Let's head over. Your grandparents and my parents are still chatting; we can talk here. Didn't you say you started a herb garden at home, Josie? Why not show me around?"
Just as Josefina hesitated, Calix burst in.
"Sis, you’ve got to come outside."
Ignoring Oliver completely, Calix stood by Josefina. "Sis, come on, I've got a surprise for you."
Josefina stood up. "Calix."
"Let's see what Calix has prepared."
Calix took Josefina by the arm, leading her outside as if Oliver wasn’t even there.
Oliver followed, curious about what Calix had planned for Josefina.
Calix led Josefina to a plaza at the back of the estate.
As soon as they arrived, fireworks shot into the sky, bursting into a stunning display.
There were so many kinds of fireworks; it was mesmerizing.
Josefina looked up, her face glowing with a smile.
"Calix, the fireworks are gorgeous."
"As long as you like them, that's what matters," Calix beamed, thrilled to see his sister so happy.
