Oliver was about to peel a shrimp when Dorian chimed in, "Hey, no need to fuss over my sister with the shrimp. She's got two brothers to handle that. Just enjoy your meal, alright?"
Oliver was left without words. Josie's brothers were just as protective as ever.
...
After dinner, Oliver and Brandon headed out.
"Grandpa, maybe ease up on the extravagant gifts for the Harrisons. I think it might be making Josie feel a bit awkward."
Brandon paused, confused. "What, I can't even give gifts now?"
"Josie and I aren't married yet. Every time you go all out, it feels like extra pressure on her. And her brothers? They look at me like I'm some rogue trying to whisk her away."
Oliver felt stuck, not sure what to do next.
"Oliver, this is kind of on you, don't you think? I mean, you're still not married to Josie. And you haven't won over her brothers either. You’re always wrapped up in work. You need to spend more time with Josie and her family."
Oliver felt the strain of the situation. He was at a loss as to how things ended up like this.
"Grandpa, I want to marry Josie, but I doubt the Harrison family is ready for that. They’ve just reconnected with her; I can't imagine they'd want to let her go just yet. Let's give it some time, okay?"
Brandon was quiet for a moment.
"Oliver, why don't you just get your act together and marry her sooner? Look at me, how much time do you think I have left? Are you waiting for me to kick the bucket before you get hitched?"
Oliver didn't know how to respond.
"Grandpa, that’s not what I meant."
