Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 813

Kate rushed over to Marina, looking like she’d seen a ghost. “Marina, what on earth am I going to do? The police hauled me in for questioning, and I was terrified! And who is this Josefina, anyway? How does she have so much influence? Even a video of me shopping got leaked online. Sure, they blurred the faces, but someone might still recognize me!”

Marina handed her a glass of water, cool as a cucumber. “Why are you getting all worked up over this? It’s just a little hiccup. You’re sitting here, aren’t you? Not locked up or anything.”

“But I’m scared!”

“No need to be. I’ve got a plan. I signed you up for a tour group so you can lay low for a while. Just relax.”

Kate let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding, feeling a bit of the weight lift as she headed off to her temporary hideout.

Meanwhile, Marina was trying to figure out how to stop Josefina from treating Hunter when Xavier called in a huff.

“Grandpa wouldn’t even see me. He kicked me out, and Dad too. We both got the boot.”

Marina was taken aback. “That old coot! How can he treat his own grandson like that?”

“Mom, do you think he’s onto something?”

“No way,” Marina said with conviction.

“Don’t worry. I’ll get someone to dig around and see if the old man knows anything. Without those shares, we’re stuck.”

“Mom, maybe you should reach out to her for help. She got you together with Dad, and we’ve had it good ever since. She’ll know what to do.”

“Xavier, hush. If anyone hears us talking about this, we’re done!”

Xavier clammed up, then switched gears. “Alright, Mom. I’ll be waiting for some good news.”

“How’s it going with Mandy?” Marina inquired.

“Mom, her family’s gone bankrupt.”

“What!” Marina exclaimed, feeling both frustrated and powerless.

“Grab a bite first, then you can get back to your sketches.”

She put down her pen, and Oliver gently took her to the other side of the room to eat.

“I got us some barbecue, all set to go. Took the skewers out, so you can easily dig in with a fork.”

“Oliver, you’re such a sweetheart.”

Josefina picked up a piece of chicken with her fork and offered it to Oliver, who eagerly took a bite.

Tonight’s chicken tasted better than ever.

“All this buzz has actually boosted our sales. We’re swamped with orders, especially for the new wedding dress line I’m handling. I’ve got to finish these designs before I can call it a night.”

“Josie, you don’t have to work yourself to the bone,” Oliver said, his eyes full of concern, wishing she’d take it easy.
