Finley was caught off guard when Shay finally said those words. It was a confession he'd been waiting on for years. Yet, as the words hung in the air, he felt surprisingly unmoved. Some things, once they're in the past, are better left there.
"Shay, of course, I like you," Finley replied.
Shay gave a confident grin, certain that with just a flick of her finger, Finley would come running like a loyal pup. But her victory was short-lived when Finley added, "I've always thought of you as a sister, so of course, I like you."
Shay was stunned. Seriously, what was up with Finley? Did he really mean brotherly affection? The Finley she used to know would never have said something like that! Although she was fuming inside, Shay managed to keep her cool.
"Finley, are you seriously saying you only see me as a sister?" Shay's voice quivered with a hint of heartbreak.
Finley, sipping his drink, heard Shay's sorrowful tone, but his mood was unlike before. In the past, he would've rushed to comfort her, not let her go on like this. But now, he didn't feel like dragging things out with Shay.
"Shay, I have things to take care of, gotta go," he said, hanging up without a second thought.
Finley couldn't quite grasp why he reacted this way. Meanwhile, Shay, in frustration, tossed her phone aside.
Later that night, Oliver was hanging out with Josefina at a street food stall, savoring BBQ and beers. Josefina shared the scoop she'd gotten from Livia.
"Josie, you've nailed it," Oliver said. "Sydney cozying up to Rowan isn't about him; it's about the Baldwin family pulling the strings."
Brandon realized that if Rowan married Sydney, he'd keep a tight grip on the reins, away from Rowan.
Josefina reached for her drink, but Oliver quickly took it away. "Josie, no more drinks for you. You'll end up hammered."
"Come on, I can handle my liquor."
Oliver gently but firmly held her hand back. "Josie, trust me, you've had enough."
