Josefina walked into the dorm room, and Haylee and Damita practically bounced over to her, brimming with excitement.
"Welcome back, your highness!" Haylee grinned, handing her a bouquet of flowers.
Damita offered Josefina a soda, "Josie, thanks a ton for letting us be part of your project and for leading us to victory!"
The previous night had been so thrilling for Haylee and Damita that sleep was a distant thought.
Josefina settled at the table, which was generously piled with fries and soda.
"Josie, come on, let's dig in together," they urged.
Josefina chuckled, "You guys really don't have to be so formal. Winning was a team effort."
The three of them sat down, munching away and chatting up a storm.
Just then, Joelle barged in, arms overflowing with bags. Haylee shot her a glare and decided to confront her.
"Joelle, are you thinking of moving back in? Didn't you tell the counselor you were staying at Shay's? What's changed? Did you get the green light from the counselor?"
Joelle, clearly annoyed by the interrogation, snapped back, "This is my dorm too. I can return whenever I feel like it."
Damita jumped in, "Did you check with the counselor? Did he okay it?"
After a quick call to the counselor, confirming Joelle didn't have the approval, Haylee and Damita stood their ground.
"Sorry, but without the counselor's nod, you can't stay here," Damita declared firmly.
The dorm was a peaceful haven for Haylee and Damita, and they shared a great rapport. Josefina, though not a full-time resident, blended right in with them.
But Joelle, with her different perspective, just didn't fit as a roommate or a friend.
Recalling past issues with Joelle, Haylee was visibly irked.
"Joelle, you're not welcome here. If you want to come back, get the teacher's nod first."
Haylee commented, "She's got a lot of nerve, trying to come back after leaving."
Damita nodded, "Leaving's a breeze, but coming back isn't that simple."
"Don't pay her any mind, Josie. She's just green with envy," Haylee reassured.
"Joelle's always been jealous of Josie. Giving her attention is just unnecessary," Damita chimed in.
Josefina simply laughed it off, "I really don't care what she says."
Indeed, Josefina had faced her share of hurdles to get where she was.
The three of them finished their meal and then went off to class together.
...
After classes, Josefina gave Alfie a call.
