"Hey, I've got something serious to talk about."
Joe could sense the tension in Josefina's voice, and he immediately shifted into serious mode.
"What's going on?"
Josefina shared Annika's troubling situation and her determination to make Xavier pay for it. Without missing a beat, Joe was all in.
"Anyone who gives you a hard time is asking for trouble with me, too! Fiona, don’t worry, I'm going to make this lawsuit a masterpiece."
"Thanks, I'll send the fee to your account."
"Fiona, come on, we're friends. If you need my help, it's on the house."
"Business is business."
As Josefina finished speaking, Joe’s phone buzzed with a notification – a billion dollars wired to his account for legal fees.
"Fiona, with this kind of cash, are you trying to make me your sugar baby?" Joe joked, clearly teasing.
"Seriously, Joe, we can't let Xavier off the hook!"
"Fiona, you got it. I'm booking the next flight back. Get ready for a big welcome party."
Josefina ended the call just as Oliver entered the diner.
Oliver slid into the seat across from her. "I've got a lawyer lined up for you."
"I already sorted it with Joe," Josefina replied.
Oliver’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, but he quickly laughed it off. "Josie, what other secrets are you hiding from me?"
"You know the backstory. Joe and I go way back. I saved him once when he was in trouble, and he promised to help me with any legal case, no questions asked."
Oliver pulled out his phone. "Let me send him the fee."
"I already sent him a billion, so you don’t need to."
Josefina poured Oliver a glass of lemonade, and as she set the pitcher down, her phone buzzed again with another billion credited to her account.
Josefina: "…"
As their meal arrived, they started eating, but were soon interrupted by someone bursting through the door and rushing over to Josefina.
Marina, desperate and pleading, knelt beside Josefina: "Please, Josefina, let Xavier go. He’s been set up and won't reveal by whom. He’s not the real villain. Please, show him mercy."
Josefina set her fork and knife down. "And who showed mercy to my Annika?"
Oliver chimed in, "A guy like that doesn’t deserve any mercy."
Marina sighed in defeat.
"Josefina, I'll do anything if you let him go," she begged.
Oliver's response was icy and mocking: "There are plenty of people willing to serve Josie; Xavier doesn’t even rank."
Just then, security approached to escort Marina out, but she suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Josefina in the abdomen.
