Marina continued, "I've got more recordings and some sneaky videos I shot when I met her."
Josefina handed Marina a letter of forgiveness and a promise note, and in return, Marina gave Josefina her old phone, packed with all the audio and video evidence.
Once they exchanged their items, they went their separate ways.
…
Josefina, clutching the evidence, headed to Oliver's office. Seeing Josefina walk in lit up Oliver's face with happiness. Every time Josefina took the initiative, it made Oliver's day.
"Oliver, have a look at this phone."
Not entirely sure what Josefina was getting at, Oliver still took out his phone. The screen showed some undercover footage of Marina in cahoots with a mysterious woman. To be exact, the mysterious woman was handing out orders, and Marina was following them.
"Marina gave me this. For years, she's been following this woman's lead. I asked Marina about her, but she has no clue what the woman looks like. Every meeting, she's been all wrapped up in secrecy."
"My smart Josie."
Josefina: "..."
"Oliver, I'm trying to talk about something serious here. Stay focused."
Oliver held Josefina's hand, and they both sat down.
"With this evidence, we still need to figure out who this woman is," Oliver said as he poured Josefina a glass of water.
Josefina took the glass naturally, taking a couple of sips. "Finding this woman won't be easy."
Josefina leaned back on the couch, looking a bit worn out.
"If it's going to be that tough, let’s not get stuck on it. We should try something different."
Josefina turned, intrigued, "Like what?"
"A shopping spree."
Josefina: "..."
"How's that a good idea?"
"Doesn't shopping make people feel better? I'll take you shopping to lift your spirits and help you forget about all this for a bit."
Josefina was about to say no, but Oliver, ever the enthusiast, pulled her up and took her to the nearby mall.
Next, they moved to the jewelry section. Josefina stood her ground, refusing to go in.
"Oliver, I'm done shopping. I'm starving."
Oliver then took her to a cozy diner, ordering a table full of classic American comfort food, and they tucked into a hearty meal.
…
Marina, with the documents Josefina had prepared, sought out a lawyer. The lawyer used the letter of forgiveness and the promise not to pursue any legal action to get Xavier out.
Marina bought a wheelchair, and Xavier sat in it.
"Mom, why are you alone? Where's Dad?"
Marina wanted to keep it under wraps, but Xavier's relentless questions forced her to tell the truth.
Hearing what happened, Xavier broke down.
"It's all over! He's paralyzed, and the Rowland family has cut ties with us. Are they trying to push us to the edge?"
