"Annika, just hear me out. Take a couple of days to rest, okay? After that, if you're feeling better, we can talk about getting back to work. Sound good?" Annika reluctantly nodded, settling back into her bed. "I'll have someone bring you some food later. For now, try to get some rest."
With Annika settled, Josefina left the room and headed to her lab, losing herself in her research.
Three hours later, her phone buzzed. It was Oliver. "Hey Josie, I'm going to be away from Westwood for a few days."
"Take care of yourself," she replied.
Oliver chuckled, a hint of resignation in his voice. "Josie, I know you asked me not to cling, but don't you have anything else to say about me leaving Westwood for a few days?"
"Alright then, I wish you a smooth journey. Hope everything goes your way."
Oliver paused for a moment. "My flight's about to board, Josie."
With that, he hung up, and Josefina returned to her research.
An hour later, she stretched her arms, feeling a sense of achievement. "Finally done."
Josefina stepped out of the lab, pills in hand, and bumped into a young maid.
"What are you doing cleaning here?" Josefina asked, her tone unintentionally sharp.
Startled, the maid explained, "Ms. Josefina, Mrs. Hattie asked me to tidy up here right away, to sweep any fallen leaves and remove wilted flowers so nothing here dampens your spirits."
Josefina was surprised at Hattie's thoughtfulness. Truth be told, her mood wasn't really affected by her surroundings, especially in the serene setting of the Harrison estate, with its birdsong, fragrant flowers, shaded trees, elegant gazebos, and gentle streams.
"Ms. Josefina, I'm sorry if I disturbed you. I'll leave right away."
"From now on, Annika will handle my cleaning. You can focus on other areas."
