When Sydney heard that Dominic had messed up yet again, she was so furious she almost couldn't stop herself from giving him a good slap.
Shay, off to the side, let out a snarky laugh. "Dominic, aren't you supposed to be the big shot, all confident and full of yourself? How'd you manage to screw up again?"
"Shut up!" Dominic snapped, his voice dripping with anger.
Shay just sat there, cool as a cucumber, acting like nothing had happened.
"Because of your failure, the internet trolls are having a field day. Our little family is under attack from every corner. Dominic, can you honestly say this isn't your fault?" Sydney slumped into a chair, looking completely worn out and defeated.
"That jerk Rowan! He's out there telling everyone he wants a divorce, making me out to be the bad guy! Now the whole world thinks I forced out his first wife just to take her place!" Sydney ranted, her face flushed with frustration.
Dominic, trying to keep his cool, replied, "You can't blame this all on me. Once Rowan found out the truth, he wanted nothing more than to kick us out. There was no way he'd let me stick around."
The room went silent, each person lost in their own thoughts.
Sydney broke the silence, "There's still a chance for us to save our skins. If we can capture that experiment called Nanshan, we might just redeem ourselves."
Dominic looked puzzled, "Mom, how can you be sure that Nanshan is the person we have locked up?"
"Before they took Nanshan to the basement, they made him take a shower, trying to figure out who he was. They couldn't confirm his identity, but I ran into him today, and along with the news I got yesterday about keeping tabs on the experiment, it all adds up," Sydney explained.
Dominic suddenly understood, nodding as it all clicked into place.
The three of them sat together, hatching a plan to make the most of their opportunity.
...
Josefina was leaving the lab when she bumped into Joelle.
Joelle approached her, looking uneasy. "Josefina, can you forgive me for what I did before? I know I messed up big time."
Josefina just kept walking, with Joelle trailing behind, pleading.
