Serena masked the coldness in her eyes.
She smiled sweetly and said, "The sheet music for 'Für Elise' is quite complex. Why don't you start by memorizing the score, Clara?"
Clara's voice was indifferent. "I've already memorized it."
Serena's face was full of disbelief. This bitch had only started learning the piece yesterday. It was impossible for her to memorize the entire score in a single day.
Before she could say anything, Clara had already begun playing.
She played the most intense middle section. The fingering here was fast and fierce. Occasionally, she hit a wrong key and clearly needed more practice.
Just as she reached the second high-pitch segment, her fingers hesitated.
It wasn't that she forgot the score, but the transition in fingering was abrupt, and her hands couldn't adjust in time.
A smug smirk curled onto Serena's lips.
She said softly, "Clara, you should just use single notes for the accompaniment here. That way, you won't get flustered and forget the notes."
Clara raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Are you sure it's supposed to be single notes?"
"I've passed my level 10 piano exam, and I've practiced this piece at least eighty times. Of course I'm sure," Serena said with a smile. "Just play it exactly the way I told you, Clara. You can't go wrong."
Clara didn't say anything and continued playing exactly as instructed. It was undeniably much smoother.
Serena smiled triumphantly. "Well, keep practicing, Clara. I'm going to head back to the classroom to do my homework."
After she left, Mrs. Sterling walked over. "Serena's piano techniques are incredibly polished. How is your learning coming along with her?"
Clara didn't answer right away. Instead, she played the segment again using Serena's method.
Mrs. Sterling frowned. "This section should transition quickly from single notes to double notes. Otherwise, it sounds too thin and lacks emotional fullness, which won't resonate with the audience. Also, there's an issue with the A minor in the third measure. The fingering should be like this..."
Clara blinked innocently. "That's how Serena taught me. She said not many people in the audience truly understand piano, so no one would even notice if I played it this way."
"Piano performance isn't about half-assing it for the audience. You must learn respect—respect for the audience, respect for the piece, and respect for yourself," Mrs. Sterling said sternly. "Taking shortcuts will only give you temporary success, not lasting greatness. Keep practicing hard. I believe in you."
