Pressing her lips into a thin line, Clara marched upstairs, hauling Ethan by his collar. She shoved him into her room and slammed the door shut, locking out the noise.
Ethan landed unceremoniously on the floor.
Clara unzipped his backpack and dumped all his textbooks onto the desk.
"What is your homework for today?" she asked coldly.
Ethan gritted his teeth. "What do you care? Who gave you the right to boss me around?"
Clara leaned down, planting a heavy hand on his shoulder. "I have the right because I'm your older sister. As your older sister, I'm the one in charge. Every single thing you do is my business. Now, tell me your assignments, or I'll call your teacher myself and find out."
Six years of Vera's deliberate neglect had nearly ruined him.
He wouldn't listen to reason. A heavy hand was the only way to get him in line.
Ethan balled his fists tightly.
He puffed out his cheeks defensively. "I slept through class. I don't know what the homework is."
Clara flipped through his textbooks. They were completely pristine. Even if he knew the assignment, there was zero chance he'd know how to do it.
"We'll start simple then," she said smoothly. "Write down ten French vocabulary words from memory."
Ethan had absolutely no desire to write French words, but he knew he wasn't leaving this room unless he complied.
He sulked over to the chair and sat down.
Clara paused. "You were yelling out there for a while. Are you thirsty?"
Ethan desperately wanted to say no just to be stubborn, but his throat was undeniably parched. "Yeah," he muttered, trying to sound tough.
Clara smiled faintly. "Go pour yourself a glass."
Each bedroom in the estate was equipped with a high-end water dispenser and a stack of paper cups.
Ethan shot her a nasty glare before getting up to fetch his water.
He had just filled the cup when Clara swiftly plucked it from his hand.
