Duncan releases a loud groan, but it isn’t louder than the sharp scream coming from the woods. “MY COTTAGE! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY COTTAGE?!”

I look down from Duncan’s chest after he releases me and stares down at Noah. He covers his mouth with his hand, shakes his head, and then rips at his hair while inhaling. “Duncan, you know that I love you man, but seriously? Are you destroying houses now? Like, of my god… You’re so lucky that I’m psychic and managed to get my wife, my baby, and YOUR baby out in time, you asshole!”

I gasp at the mention of our son and slide down from Duncan’s chest with widened eyes. “Is he here?”

“Yeah, behind the trees,” Noah turns around and whistles. I smile when Noelle appears with my son in her arms. A pram beside her has her own kid in it.

“Do you know who that is?” Noelle asks Crow, who gives me a big, toothless baby smile.

“Goo!” he says and then tries his darn hardest to speak, something which warms my heart. I’ve missed his white hair, big doe-eyes, and goofy smile.

“Hi, buddy!” I exclaim as I hurry over to take him from Noelle’s arms. “Have you missed mommy?”

I’ve never considered myself a sensitive person, but becoming a mother changes you. Tears of joy stream down my face as I cuddle Crow close, burying my nose in his soft, downy hair. His familiar baby scent fills my nose, and this instant calm settles over me. My precious boy is safe and whole in my arms once more.

“Oh, my sweet baby,” I coo, peppering his chubby cheeks with kisses. He might be a toddler soon, but he still has that baby fatness to him. “Mommy missed you so much. I’m so sorry we were gone for so long.”

Crow gurgles happily, his tiny hands grabbing my hair. The little menace is going to make me go bald one of these days, but I don’t mind it. I love holding him and squeeze him to me. Not too hard, of course, but enough to let my little wolf know that Mama loves him.

Behind me, I hear the creak and groan of wood as Duncan carefully extracts himself from the ruins of Noah’s cottage. He shifts back to his human form with a pained grunt, and I turn to see him gingerly stretching out

his limbs.

“You alright there, big guy?” I ask, eyeing him with concern even as I keep Crow snuggled close.

Duncan nods, wincing slightly. “I’ll be fine. Nothing a little rest won’t fix.” He limps over to join me, his eyes softening as they land on our son. “Hey there, little man. Did you miss your papa?”

Crow squeals in delight, reaching chubby hands out for Duncan. My heart melts at the sight of my two favorite boys reuniting. Duncan takes Crow into his arms, cradling him tenderly against his bare chest. I know that skin to skin contact is so important for bonding, and seeing Duncan hold our son with such love and care makes my heart swell to bursting.

“We’re home now, buddy. And we’re never leaving you again,” Duncan murmurs, pressing a kiss to Crow’s forehead.

The baby coos contentedly, his eyelids already drooping as he snuggles into his father’s warmth. The stress and fear of the past days seem to melt away, replaced by pure relief and joy at having our family whole once

more.

Noah clears his throat, drawing our attention. “I’m really glad you guys are back safe and that you found Crow. But, uh, my cottage?” He gestures to the splintered remains behind us.

“Right,” I grimace. “Umm…do you want a check?”

Noah glares at me for a long moment before his face turns happy. “I’m just messing with you. I knew this would happen, and also, I knew the two of you would make up on that little trip. How was the snow?”

I gasp in realization. “It was you!” I point at Noah. “You somehow opened that portal and send us on a journey! It was all part fo your plan to make us make up, wasn’t it?!”

Noah grins unapologetically, spreading his hands wide. “Guilty as charged. But can you blame me? You two were driving me and Noelle crazy. Something had to be done.”

I gape at him, torn between outrage and reluctant gratitude. “You couldn’t have just, I don’t know, sat us down for a heart-to-heart like a normal person instead of opening a fucking portal to Antarctica?!”

He snorts. “Please, like either of you would have listened. No, you needed to be forced into a situation where you had no choice but to rely on each other and work through your issues.” His expression softens. “And it looks like it worked.”

Duncan chuckles, shifting Crow to one arm so he can wrap the other around my waist, pulling me close. “I hate to admit it, but the sneaky bastard is right. That little adventure was exactly what we needed, no?”

“We almost died, Duncan.”

“Nah! It was all under control!”

“Your leg was broken.”

“Was.”

I snort at that and lean into Duncan’s side, unable to hide the smile tugging on my lips. “You’re a troll,” I tell him, and then I look at Noah. He is watching us carefully, and I sigh. “Fine, you win this round, Noah. Duncan and I are closer than ever, and I love that. But next time, just talk to us like normal people, okay? No more surprise portals.”

Noah grins, holding his hands up in surrender. “No promises, but I’ll try to resist the urge. Noelle is always telling me I’m too dramatic for my own good.”

Noelle snorts from where she’s standing by the pram. “Understatement of the century. But I love you anyway, you meddling fool.” The affection in her voice is sweet, and I look up at Duncan with affection of my own.

“When we get home, I want to be announced as your Luna,” I tell him. “And then I want a cuddling session with my favorite dragon.”

He grins at me. “Luna, huh?”

His face softens. “Of course,” his voice is gentle too. “If you want to be the Luna of the Winter pack, then I have nothing to say to that because we both know whose the boss in our relationship.”

I beam up at him. “Me…right?”

“Yes, you,” he leans down to kiss my head, and my insides sizzle with love. I have a son, and I’ve finally made up with my mate-could life get any better? I think not.

“I love you,” I say, and this time, I won’t let anything come in the way of my feelings. “And guess what? You’re stuck with me. I won’t ever let anything get in the way of us again.”

Duncan’s smile just grows. “I wouldn’t have it any other way, sweetheart.”

End of book 2, there will be a short story after this about another couple that’s much shorterer.
