My body was covered in bruises when I arrived home. A bluish discoloration formed on my forehead from the injury I suffered, even though the healer had helped with the major pain. My body ached. It felt like I was run over by a car.
My mother’s voice echoed from the kitchen, and I tried to sneak into my room before she’d see me, but it was too late.
“Thank goodness you’re here,” she approached me, grabbing my arm as she dragged me into my room. I winced from the pain that shot through my veins, but she didn’t even blink.
Her eyes searched my body, which was covered in bruises, and her eyes twitched into a scowl.
“What the hell?” She drew her brows together, but before I could even answer her, she shook her head, dismissing me. “You know what? It doesn’t matter.”
It was no shock to see that she didn’t care about my well-being, but couldn’t she at least pretend to care?
“What do you want to talk about,” I asked, brushing off the thought.
“You’re going to the WildCrest pack,” she said as a matter of fact.
I stared at her blankly, dumbfounded for a while, and she rolled her eyes as if talking to me was more draining than she could imagine.
“Wild what? Why would I go there?” My heart pounded in my chest as I managed to ask. Aside from the fact that the WildCrest was very far away from here, I didn’t see any reason why she would ask me to suddenly relocate.
I knew sooner or later, she’d kick me out of the house, but sending me out of the pack completely? My lips parted on their own, but all I could make out was ragged breath.
“Because I said so,” she hissed.
I shook my head in disbelief. “You can’t possibly send me off to a pack where I don’t belong…”
“You should have thought about that before messing with people who could destroy you in the blink of an eye,” she sneered.
“What were you even thinking of getting into a fight with Sabrina? Have you gone mad? After the Alpha, her family is the most powerful in the pack.”
She poked her finger in my head, her eyes glinting with annoyance. “How do you even get a scholarship with that dead brain of yours? I told you to stay out of trouble, didn’t I?!”
Her voice rose with every word she spoke, and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“I didn’t get into a fight, Mom, I was bullied,” I wanted the snap, my voice cracked with emotion. “Do you even know what she did to me? Or what I have been going through all along? I’m your daughter, but you’re just going to take an outsider s word for it without asking for my side of the story?”
She grabbed my arms, yanking me closer and I inhaled a shaky breath “Listen to me,” she said through gritted teeth. “You can live however you want. It’s your life, but one thing I won’t allow is to ruin my chances with Alpha Zane or tarnish my reputation
“Sabrina’s parents had made a complaint about you,” she continged. “And unlike your dumb ass, I don’t start battles I can’t finish, so you’ll have to leave.”
This wasn’t about battles and we both knew it She’s with Alpha ne, people would have to respect her whether they like it

or not, but as expected, she’d rather throw me under the bus if it means licking powerful people’s ass to climb the social ladder than defend her only child.
Sometimes, I wondered why she bothered bringing me here when she hates my gut.
She was a nobody without Alpha Zane, and she had become so desperate that she’d do anything to claw her way out of her lowly background. Turns out being the Alpha’s woman wasn’t enough. Now, she’d even suck up to wealthy families, just to get their approvals.
“If I leave now, what would I be doing there?”
I wasn’t considering it. I won’t give up my life just to satisfy the mother who’d sacrifice me just to win a few favors, but I was curious to know how far she had planned this.
“You can attend an academy for lowly rogues like you,” she shrugged. “At least, you won’t have to feel out of place or worried about making a wrong impression over there.”
Tears stung my vision from her harsh words. My throat burned for the thousand thousand that invaded my mind, but none dared to leave my mouth.
“Oh,” she said with a small grin. “You can also get engaged to their Alpha’s son. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
She wanted to marry me off to a nobody? I haven’t turned eighteen and she was already planning how to ruin whatever chance I may get in the future?
A scoff escaped my mouth as she left my room, and I couldn’t believe what was happening.
Refusing to believe my mother was serious, I began to fill in for the classes I missed today, and lost track of time until a maid came to call me for dinner.
Everyone was already seated when I arrived in the dining room. Avoiding my mother’s glare, I ate silently and waited for the perfect opportunity to leave when Alpha Zane broke the silence,
“Nevaeh,” he called, still eating his food. I dropped my fork to look at him, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Your mother said she has spoken to you about leaving for Wilddrest Pack,” he said, and my heart skipped a beat.
“It doesn’t sound like a bad idea but transferring in the middle of the term might affect your grade. Will you wait until you finish with your exams?”
My body went still at his question. Alpha Zane seemed to be a reasonable person, but seeing how he was talking, Mother must have managed to convince him.
I clung onto the hem of my dress, gripping it tight, until my pal ached, when Mom spoke up.
“That’s nothing to worry about. With a brain like hers, she’d mange just fine.”
Alpha Zane nodded in agreement and it felt like a blade was being twisted in my throat. My palms dampened, tears glinting in my eyes but I refused to let it fall.
No. No. No.
I can’t agree to this. I excused myself, running into my room before the tears could slip away.
How could she think of doing this to her child? I should have known coming here with her would come at a price, but 1 didn’t expect her to be this cold.

I have to do something. I knew how my mother was. She would stop using me to get what she wanted, so it’s about time I stand up for myself.
“Do you have a death wish? Going against her when she has the acking of the Alpha?” I shook my head, when a thought popped in my head.
My head snapped to the small bag in my closet, and leaving suddenly felt like the best thing to do.
It was either that or my mother married me off to some man I have no clue about and I’d die before that happens.
I jumped to my feet and began to pack up. Living in the pack house had saved me a lot; I didn’t have to worry about food or rent but now that it has turned to this, leaving didn’t sound like such a bad idea.
I waited until everyone had gone to sleep before slipping out of bed. I opened my drawer and brought out the little money I managed to save up from the token Mom gave me after splitting the initial allowance from Alpha Zane and a small smile tugged my lips.
It’s not a lot, but it was enough to help me settle for a few days until I get a job. I tucked the money in my back pocket, ready to leave when I heard someone cough from behind.
My heart dropped at the sight of Kael. His eyes darted from the hoodie in my hand to the little bag on the bed and his eyes flashed with something I couldn’t decipher.
He grabbed my arms roughly, pinning me against the window and my breath hitched. His eyes searched mine as if reading through me. I tried to push him off, but he was too fucking strong, he didn’t even move.
“W-what are you doing?” I stammered.
“If you think running is the way to get you out of this situation then here’s my advice,” he stated, looking straight into my
eyes.
“You either scurry off like the coward that you have always been or stand and fight for once in your entire life.”
