Classes had begun, but Nevaeh was nowhere to be found. I left her a few blocks away from school, so it shouldn’t take her five minutes to get here. Throughout the lecture, I couldn’t stop myself from staring at her empty seat. She wasn’t the type to skip classes, so why wasn’t she here?
“She’s not a child. What are you so worried about?” A voice said my head, but before I could brush the thought away, a sharp pain coursed through my being. My heart pounded in my chest, hands were trembling. I jumped to my feet, ignoring the stares from everyone as I ran out of the classroom.
Nevaeh was in trouble.
I looked around, going from the restroom to every other place I could think of, but she was nowhere to be found.
My wolf roared, feeling her pain too. I traced her scent to the school clinic, only to find her drenched in her own blood.
My blood ran cold.
She stumbled backward, eyes closing off, but before she could fall, I grabbed her mid-air. “Nevaeh!”
My breath hitched when she didn’t respond. My eyes snapped to the healer who had a smug look on her face until she saw the look in my eyes.
“What did you do to her?” My body shook violently as I straightened, carrying Nevaeh in my arms.
“I… I didn’t do anything,” she stammered. “She came to find me looking like that.”
I didn’t miss the condescending tone in her voice, sending a jolt of rage through my veins.
“And?” I frowned, taking a step forward, and she backed away instinctively. Her hands fidgeted in fright.
“T-the… I…”
“Save it,” I cut her off before she could say anything else. “You’ll do everything to keep her safe, and if I were you, I’d pray to the goddess that she doesn’t have a single scratch on her body wllen she wakes up, or you’ll exhaust your energy trying to mend yourself before you could even think of healing anyone else.”
She didn’t need me to repeat myself before rushing into the war. I placed Nevaeh gently on the bed, and my chest tightened from her look. Her hands were covered with dried blood, and the only thing I could think of was taking down whoever did this to her.
I stormed out of the ward to see Sabrina and her minions making their way out. I didn’t need to ask to know they were the
reason she was in that state.
Her friends hurried away as I approached them, and Sabrina had the fakest smile I have ever seen plastered on her face.
“Kael, why are you-”
I grabbed her neck violently, slamming her back hard against the wall, and she let out a whimper.
“W-what-” she coughed, struggling to breathe.
A surge of rage coursed through my veins as I tightened my grip round her neck. Tears formed in the corner of her eyes, but that was the last thing I was concerned with.
“Who gave you the right to lay your filthy hands on her?” My voe came out sharper than I intended, making her flinch.

She held my hands, trying to loosen my grip on her neck, but it only tightened. My wolf howled in anger, and if I wasn’t holding back, he’d pounce on her touching our mate.
“I… I c-a-n’t breathe,” she choked out.
“Who the fuck said you could touch?” I demanded. My chest heaved, jaw clenched, and it took everything in me to suppress the urge to maim her and leave her in the same state Nevaeh was at the moment.
She opened her mouth to speak and released a harsh breath. “I-Kael… I…” she blinked back the tears that blurred her vision, intensifying my anger.
She dragged her hand to my shoulder, digging her fingers in to scratch me, but I could barely feel it.
“Do not make me repeat myself, Sabrina, or this wouldn’t end well for you,” I hissed.
“I… can’t… speak,” she mouthed. Air rushed onto my skin as my hands flew in the air, but before they could connect with her cheeks, a firm grip grabbed me, forcing me to release her.
My eyes shot up to Tristan who was glaring at me with the same intensity. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to kill her?”
I brushed Sabrina out of my way, and her cliques, who seemed to call Tristan here, rushed to her side. I didn’t miss how she inhaled sharply from my peripheral vision, her hands went to her neck to massage her neck, but my attention was now fixed on Tristan.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“I should be asking you that dude,” Tristan hissed. “Why are you so bothered about who touches a random omega no one cares about? It’s not like you’re any better because you’ve done worse to her.”
My knuckles ached from how tightly I was gripping them. I gritted my teeth, trying so hard not to punch his nose as I stormed away angrily.
His words lingered on my mind as I dashed out of the hallway and I couldn’t help but wonder if she was suffering now because of me.
My wolf hissed, growling out of rage as I went to the rooftop to ease up. A part of me wondered if Nevaeh blamed me for all the bullying too.
Too angry to face the others, I remained on the rooftop until the healer sent a word to inform me that Nevaeh was better.
“Keep an eye on her and make sure she remains in the ward until the school closes.” I ordered.
The rest of the day blurred, and I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about Nevaeh. Going to check on her would be weird, so I called one at the pack to come pick her up, knowing she’d be too weak to walk home in that state.
I didn’t miss the shock on her face when the man approached her. Everyone stopped to stare at what was happening, and Nevaeh seemed startled.
She was still limping when the man whispered something in ear and I watched her get into the car with a suspicious look
“Who was that?”
“I have never seen him before.”
I heard the students whimpering among themselves before heading home. I headed into my room, when I heard whispers coming from Nevaeh’s room. The door was slightly opened and could tell her mother was in there.
A frown played on her lips and I could tell that she wasn’t having whatever her mother was talking about
