Kael and Sabrina’s engagement had spread around the school like wildfire. That was the only thing everyone has been talking about for the past few days and it’s pretty exhausting.

One could hear their names from every corner of the room, and at this point I just wanted everyone to keep their mouth

shut.

I didn’t know why they were acting so surprised when she was literally the queen bee of the pack and flaunted her family’s wealth at every given opportunity.

It was time for lunch and everyone was gathered at the cafeteria o eat while Sabrina told them stories about how romantic and soft Kael had been towards her since they became engaged.

I took my food and sat down at the far corner where no one would notice me. Sabrina had been in a pretty good mood lately and barely had time to bully anyone including me. She was more concerned with oppressing everyone with the news, and she seemed to derive a questionable amount of pride from the jealous look on the girls’ faces.

At least that gets me to walk around without the fear of getting picked on, so maybe it wasn’t entirely a bad thing, except everyone feared their duo and avoided Sabrina at all costs, too scared to get on Kael’s black book.

“Omg! Is that a diamond ring?” One of her minions asked with widened eyes as Sabrina waved her hands in the air every second of the day to gain attention.

“What do you think? That I’d wear some cheap ring?” She scoffed in disbelief. “Of course, it’s real.” She grinned.

“It was the ring Kael got me when he proposed to me.”

Her cliques surrounded her, taking pictures of the ring in admiration and anyone could tell how much they wanted to live her life right now.

Jealousy was written all over their faces as they fawned over her fake flattery.

“Does that mean you’ll also be crowned as the Luna at Kael’s coming of age ceremony?” One of her friends asked.

“Of course, it has been decided and our parents are also in support,” she shrugged, acting all carefree when she hadn’t stopped blushing since she walked into the room.

If only everyone knew that she had been feeding them lies because Kael wasn’t the one who got her the ring. I saw the ring with Alpha Zane a couple of days ago, so he must have been the one who gifted her and here she was lying to the entire school to prove a point.

Everyone was suddenly sucking up to her, trying to get on the good page with the future Luna and I almost scoffed out loud.

Kael was very much uninterested in their marriage, and I wondered if Sabrina was aware of this too. I hadn’t seen Kael since the whole news broke out, and he was mostly invisible at home o.

I overheard him and his father yelling at each other the other night and I wished I could ask what it was about. I thought they had a good relationship when we moved in. There was a way they endured each other that outsiders wouldn’t notice something was off at first glance, but everything changed recent and I have a feeling there was more to the story.

The rest of the day blurred and I rushed home as soon as the berang before anyone could mention anything about Kael and Sabrina once

again.

Mom had told me to dress nicely and behave at my best because Damon, the only son of the Alpha of WildCrest whom my mother had convinced the Alpha to marry me off to was comin

I wasn’t looking forward to the meeting, but I didn’t dare refuse my mom’s order. She even went as far as buying me a new dress just to make a good first impression.

“If you embarrass me tonight, you’re as good as dead.”

She left my room after the threat and I just lay on the bed, until maid came in to inform me that the guest had arrived.

Mom came to fetch me before the maid could even finish her words. The maid excused herself and Mom shut the door behind us.

“I don’t expect you to know how to attract a man,” her face twitched into a frown as she spoke. “Just keep a smile on and do whatever he says. Do you understand?”

I nodded. She dragged me out and as soon as we were downstair, she gave him the fakest smile she had to offer, and he didn’t even seem a bit impressed.

“This is Nevaeh, my daughter.”

She introduced me to him. His eyes scanned my body as he sipped his drink loudly, before placing the cup down.

“Not bad,” he nodded, as he assessed my body. The dress my mom made me wear pressed against my body, highlighting every single curve in my body to impress him, and ‘not bad’ was all I got.

I dug my nails into my palms, trying to hold back my anger.

“I expected worse,” he chuckled. “You know? Maybe crippled or someone with half a brain…” he trailed off as his eyes snapped up to meet mine. “You’re dumb, are you?”

Mom laughed at his words, dragging me to sit down opposite him. “Of course, not,” she waved her hands in the air. “Maybe just a little slow, but she’s smarter than you think.”

My throat burned from all the words I swallowed.

“Same thing,” he rolled his eyes.

I sat there as my mother tried to calm an entitled ass who only knew how to insult me since the moment I walked in. He didn’t seem to care about getting to know me. He had already concluded that I was not a good fit for him, but what hurt was the way my mother laughed at everything he said.

That dude wasn’t even funny.

His gaze dropped to my boobs, and I shifted uncomfortably. “I’m sure she’d still be of use. Dumb girls give good sex,” he said, and I flinched from his words.

“Am I wrong?”

I grabbed a handful of my dress material, clenching hard onto i He raised his brows at my silence.

“What? Don’t tell me you’re offended,” he chuckled and Mom laughed with him.

“Offended? No,” she said quickly. “She’s just really shy.”

“She better be,” he spat. “I’m already doing you a huge favour soat kind of attitude is not what I expected from you.”

Bile rushed to my throat as my stomach curled violently. His ey bore into mine as if daring me to speak back to him, while Mom’s eyes shot me daggers from the other end.

“You’re no different from a bastard who was born to a weakling, why would I want to marry someone as useless as that? You should be proud that I was even proud of thinking about fuking someone like you,” he spat.

Tears pricked the corner of my eyes from his sharp words, but I didn’t let them fall. They didn’t deserve to see me cry.

“If my father hadn’t insisted that I take you in because he wanted an alliance with Alpha Zane, he would never have agreed to me marrying a charity case of the pack, so you’ll smile at me while I talk to you because I’m saving your ass here.”

I inhaled sharply, trying to stop the tears that blurred my vision as I kept my head hung low. Shame clawed at me from his harsh words and yet, my mother simply laughed it off.

“Marrying her is like marrying the Alpha’s daughter,” mother assured him. “You won’t regret it.”

She sounded so desperate to get me out of her life for good. I hid my trembling hands under the table as I kept my mouth. shut.

“Run away like the coward that you are or stand up for yourself for once,” Kael’s words echoed in my head. Mom wouldn’t stop walking all over me, humiliating me at every opportunity she gets unless I fought for myself.

It felt like a blade was twisted in my chest as I sat still, listening to their words, but I couldn’t bring myself to speak back and give them a piece of my mind, knowing how badly that’d end for me.

I found myself looking over at Kael’s seat, and couldn’t help but miss his presence. If he was here, would he have spoken up for me?

Alpha Zane finally joined us and Damon seemed to cowered in his presence. Alpha Zane seemed to notice where I was looking when he spoke.

“Kael couldn’t join because he has a date with his betrothed.”

My chest tightened from the announcement and I didn’t know which hurts more; the humiliation I had to swallow all night to please an ass, or the thought of Kael going on a date with Sabrina.

Just then, the door swung open and Kael burst in. His eyes met with mine in an instant, and my heart pounded in He seemed to notice the extra plate on the dining table. His gaze shifted to Damon, and his expression went dead.
