Kael’s gaze hardened as they settled on Damon, and I couldn’t tell what that was all about. His muscles flexed from where he stood, his eyes shooting Damon daggers.

“It’s a good thing you’re here,” Alpha Zane broke the silence. “Why don’t you join us? We were just introducing Damon to Neveah.

He strode to the table, pulling his seat next to mine, and I could feel the anger radiating through his body. Why did he look so pissed? Alpha Zane mentioned that he was meeting with Sabrina earlier. Maybe his date didn’t go well?

Even if that was the case, it’s not enough reason to have Kael glaring at someone he was meeting for the first time unless I was missing something.

“Long time no see,” Damon said with a smirk. He didn’t back down from Kael’s glare, and he seemed to be enjoying the attention for whatever reason.

“Didn’t think you’d ever crawl out of your hole,” Kael shrugged, and I wondered what the beef was all about.

“I bet you didn’t want me to,” he shot back. “We both know how insecure you feel with my presence.”

Kael snorted at his words. It was obvious they had a history, but it didn’t explain why they were both hostile to each other. From what I heard, Damon schooled in his Pack and I have never seen him around either, not since I got here anyway.

“You think too highly of yourself. No wonder no one was willing to accept you into their team.” Kael taunted, and I could see that hit a nerve.

Damon’s flared up. He opened his mouth to speak, but Alpha Zane cut him off, clearly tired of the unnecessary tension that had taken over the atmosphere.

“I’m sure you both didn’t need an introduction,” he said, looking between Kale and Damon before settling his gaze on me. “They’re childhood friends,” he explained, and Kael corrected him immediately.

“That was back in the day. I don’t mingle with bird brains.”

Damon shook his head, clearly unimpressed. “Grow up, Drakenwood. Your jealousy is the only reason why the friendship didn’t last. If you weren’t busy sucking around like a loser every time I beat you at a game, maybe I would have shown you what real skills are.”

“Says a deadbeat whose only award was best in cheating…”

“Enough!” Alpha Zane slammed his hands on the table, glaring a the two. “We’re here to discuss something important, not spend the whole day listening to your childish fight.”

The two kept quiet after that, but that didn’t stop them from glaring at each other. Whatever happened between them must have been brutal, seeing how it ruined their friendship completely.

“I’ve discussed all the necessary things with your father,” Alpha ne continued, and Damon finally drew his gaze away from Kael “Your presence here is just to formally meet Nevach. You can spend the night here if you want, I’ll have the maids

prepare a room”

“That wouldn’t be necessary,” he said with a forced smile. “I will be meeting with an old friend, so I should probably leave now”

Alpha Zane left the table once he was done eating, and Kael disappeared too. Mother walked Damon to the door, and watching her feed his ego made me sick to my stomach.

I went to the balcony to get some fresh air when I saw Kael resting on the rails. He stared into empty space, lost in his thoughts, and he didn’t seem to be aware of my presence.

I stood there, amused by how attractive his side view was. He still hadn’t noticed me when I cleared my throat. That finally seemed to grab his attention. He turned back to face me, eyes boring into mine, and my breath hitched.

His eyes burned with rage. Jaw clenched, muscles tensed, and I regretted not turning back the moment I noticed him.

“I… I should go,” my foot kicked before he could take out his anger out on me when he grabbed my arms.

“Sit down,” he said softly, pointing to the small space beside him, and my body froze.

He sounded so gentle. I didn’t think he was capable of that, and he suddenly wanted me to sit with him? Why?

A part of me insisted that leaving was the right thing to do, but I couldn’t turn him down, not when he was asking so calmly. I sat down next to him, ignoring the way my heart pounded in my chest as I stared into the sky.

Neither of us tried to break the silence and it felt so uncomfortable. I had come here to relax a bit, but sitting so close to Kael made me all work up.

After what felt like the longest hour, I finally summoned the courage to ask him the question that had been weighing on my mind.

“Why do you hate me?”

His eyes snapped to me in shock. He didn’t see that coming, and the fact that he hadn’t snapped at me pushed me to continue.

“I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to offend you. Why do I think you can’t stand me—”

He didn’t allow me to finish my sentence when he cut in. “Why would you rather sleep with everyone in school but treat me like a monster?” He countered, taking me by surprise.

What was he talking about? I have never hooked up with anyone in school or anyone at all, so where was that coming from?

“Why did you allow all those bastards who are worse than me, might I add, lay their hands on you?”

He sounded more pissed than an accusation. As if thinking about it alone was enough to rile him up, and I didn’t know how to respond.

Should I ask where that was coming from or why he would even think of me like that? Would he even believe if I were to tell him that wasn’t the case, because he seemed pretty convinced about what he’s talking about.

I kept quiet, thinking about what to say to him, when he rose to is feet. “Can’t come up with an excuse now?” He scoffed in disbelief.

“You deserve the worse punishment anyone could ever imagine he spat. “Because no one in the world ever hurt me like you did.”

My mouth hung open, and I couldn’t help but wonder what he was talking about. Hurt him? How? He scares the shit out of me. How could I dared to do anything to hurt him?

Before I could ask what he meant by that, he stormed of angrily and I wondered what the hell just happened.
