KAEL
I had almost forgotten what day it was, until I walked in and meth crowd at every corner of the house. My gaze met with my father who gave me a single nod to acknowledge me, and I couldn’t believe that in the end he still did what he wanted.
Tonight was all about him. What the pack members would think of him, how the elders would praise him, and he didn’t even care about how I felt deep down, as long as I showed up and completed the ceremony.
My stomach churned angrily from all the pretentious looks I was getting from everyone and I headed straight into my room. I wasn’t in the mood to mingle, and didn’t even bother to invite anyone on my own.
Everyone present tonight was all my father’s guests and I have no business entertaining any of them. As soon as I got into my room, I snapped the door shut and crashed on the bed.
The only thing I looked forward to was experiencing the full emergence of my wolf tonight and our connection. That was the only thing I had been using to console myself since Father began the whole preparation, otherwise, he wouldn’t even see me tonight.
Father was so desperate to make me take on the burden of responsibility I never wanted, and worse, he wouldn’t even give me enough time to mentally prepare myself.
I missed the presence of my mother tonight more than any other day. Before I knew it, I had already pulled out her picture from one of the books on my desk and was now staring at it.
It was the last picture we took together at a Pack event, and as usual, she had the brightest smile I had ever seen on her face. She was always so supportive. Kind. And would always cheer for others.
I hate to compare my parents, but she was the complete opposite of my father, and she had to die before I could figure that
out.
If there was anyone who wanted to see this day more, it was her. She’d always talk about it on my birthdays, teasing me about how she couldn’t wait until I became a real man, and even planned in advance.
She made a whole list of what she wanted. Who she’d invite, literally everything. She was so eager to see this day even more than I wanted, and seeing how her eyes lit up every time she spoke about the ceremony made my heart melt.
And then she died, and father dismissed all her ideas of the ceremony. He prioritized the Pack’s opinion more than his dead wife’s wish. My jaw clenched as I stared at my mother’s picture, and I just wanted everything to end already so that we could
all move on.
This was definitely the last time my father would have his way when it came to making decisions in my personal life. I had barely finished the thought when the door creaked open and Sabrina strode in.
My wolf snorted at my words, because this one right here was another reminder that my father didn’t know when to stop.
She wore a long white dress that looked like a wedding dress, and I couldn’t help the feeling of annoyance that clawed at my
chest.
The dress was a V shape that highlighted her curves, cupping her breasts up more than necessary. She had a smug smile on her face, as she walked in with a bottle of champagne and two glasses.
I wasn’t dumb enough to think all she wanted to do was drink because I wouldn’t mind using some drink right now, but when it came down to Sabrina, everything was sexualized and ated how of all people, this was the woman my father thought would be good for me.
“What are you doing here? The party is happening downstairs,” said dryly, hiding the picture of my mother before she would start spreading unnecessary rumors.

She placed the bottle and glasses carefully on the desk before swaying her hips left and right, trying ridiculously hard to
look cute.
“What do you think?” She rolled her eyes, blinking her fake lashes every passing second. “I came here to have fun with you.”
She stood between my legs, literally pressing her boobs on my face. “I’m not in the mood,” I frowned, pushing her off, but she wouldn’t budge.
“Come on,” she said. locking her hands around my neck. “I know a good way to make one release some tension,” she winked, trailing her hands down my chest in an attempt to turn me on.
Her hands felt like stone on her body, aggravating me even more. It was already hard that she didn’t know how to take no for an answer, but forcing herself on me? Seriously?
“My parents once mentioned how the coming-of-age ceremony used to give the Alphas unnecessary pressure, so I came here just to make you feel at ease.”
She took a step back, slowly going on her knees, literally shoving her boobs in my face. Her hands went to the hem of my pants, as she shrugged to take off my belt.
“How about I help you blow off some steam?”
I yanked her away before she could grow any more confidence, and rose to my feet.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” She snapped. “Can’t you see that I’m trying to help here?”
“Get the fuck out of my face and go downstairs where the party is happening,” I snapped back, feeling a surge of rage coursing through my veins.
“That is not a way to speak to your future Luna,” she shot me a look, straightening herself, as her cheeks flushed red. “We’re about to get engaged and what’s the big deal anyway? It’s not like we’ve not fucked before so why are you being a prude about it?”
My jaw clenched at the thought of mating with Sabrina tonight. Mating was a sacred thing and my father was going to tie me with this bitch forever? Everything about tonight felt so wrong, and I didn’t think my father was thinking when he planned all of this.
He didn’t care if I had a fated mate or if I knew who she was. The only thing he cared about was the future of the pack, even if it was at the expense of my happiness.
“Sabrina,” I called out through gritted teeth, because if she didn’t leave my room right now, I wouldn’t mind embarrassing her by throwing out in front of all the guests.
“We’re no saints,” she pushed herself towards me, and my body shook with anger. “There’s no need to resist touching ourselves before the ceremony,” she slurred, biting her lips in a firtatious way.
Her hands curled up my neck, pulling me close until our lips were almost touching when the door was pushed open with force.
My head snapped towards the door when two men barged into my room. They were dressed in all black, gaze hardened and I didn’t miss the disgusting stench that came off their bodies that revealed their identities before they even did anything
“Rogues!” Sabrina screamed.
They charged towards us immediately, moving skillfully as they threw punches my way I pushed Sabrina behind me protectively as I dodged all their attacks.
I lurched towards them, snarling, but they seemed oddly powerful and didn’t cower under my Alpha’s dominance, which
was very strange.

I looked back at Sabrina who was now trembling fearfully behind me. I needed to get her out of here if I was going to fight these two. There was no way I couldn’t protect her and take them down at once.
“Run!” I snapped, as I threw the bottle on my desk at one of them to distract them. Sabrina took the opportunity to flee, leaving me with the two rogues.
Pouncing on the weak one between the two, I dug my claws into his skin, and a scream tore through the air.
I didn’t know how they managed to get into my room or why no one had come in to help take them down, but there was no way I could take both of them down at once.
I jumped down the window, running towards the woods, but that wasn’t enough to make them give up. They ran after me, and I could tell they were determined to take me down.
I hid behind a tree and attacked one of them from behind. A low growl escaped my throat as I pounced on him, dragging my claws all over him.
Taking advantage of where I had him injured earlier, I pressed my boots against his rib, before snapping his neck.
He dropped dead on the floor, leaving me panting. I knew I still had to find the other one, but taking down one of them was draining. I felt a shadow behind me, but before I could run, a sharp pain shot through my being as he stabbed me.
“Go to hell,” he spat, stabbing the knife deeper into my stomach, as I coughed out blood.
My knees gave out and I fell to the ground. I wrapped my hands around the knife, trying to pull it out, but the burning flame that coursed through my being was unbearable.
A bead of sweat formed on my forehead as the man ran away. I looked down to the spot I had been stabbed to see it was a silver blade stuck between my stomach, but it wasn’t enough to make me this weak at once.
The blade must have been smeared with a wolfsbane. I stumbled on my feet, but I was already deep into the woods, and I didn’t think I could make it back home.
I was close to the hideout I discovered as a child and without a second thought, I dragged myself into the cave. If he were to come back to finish what he started, there was no way I’d be able to fight in this state.
I collapsed as soon as I got into the cave, body burning from within, and I could tell the poison was spreading fast. I knew there was no way anyone could find me here. Not even my father was aware of this place.
My heart ached at the thought of dying here, and all I could think about was Nevaeh. I wished I had been more open with her. I wished I informed her about how I felt before it was too late, and now, she’d live without the knowledge that I was her mate or even liked her at all.
I regretted not answering her question in the car earlier. My eyes grew heavy, and even though I fought hard to keep it open, my body was slowly losing the will to fight.
I felt a weight dipped next to me, and my breath quickened. I didn’t think the rogues would follow me here. I could barely keep my eyes open, when I felt the gentle touch I had been hoping to feel one last time.
Nevaeh. She came for me.
My body went still, and I wished I could open my eyes fully and see her beautiful face for the last time. Her warmth disappeared as soon as they arrived, and I panicked. Even if this was going to be the last time I’d hold her, I didn’t want to let go, so I held her hands with the last shred of strength I had left.
“Stay.”
My voice came out barely as a whisper. I didn’t think she heard me, but when I felt her sitting next to me, I inhaled a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

She placed her hands on my stomach, trying to stop the blood, she cursed under her breath. Her voice blended with the sound of the water waves and I could barely make out what sheas saying, when I felt something stirred inside me.
Before I could process what was happening, it felt like something snapped inside me, and my wolf took control.
He shifted forcefully, taking control over my weak body, and my body shook violently. A scream tore out of my throat from the excruciating pain that coursed through my body.
“Kael! Are you okay? I’m here!”
Nevach held my hands tight as if she was trying to share my pain, but I could barely focus on anything apart from the pain.
It felt like my body was being torn into pieces and I couldn’t do anything to stop it. A hot tear slipped down my cheeks, and I knew this was the end.
There was no way I could survive this. My body gave out but before the darkness consumed me completely, it felt like my flesh was starting to merge back together, like it was healing itsel
