The elders were still busy talking about how to replace Kael with Alpha Zane when I snuck out through the back door. It was now or never. Everyone was gathered watching as the elders kept spilling out nonsense, which made it easier to go unnoticed.
I wondered if this was how the rogues got in without gaining attention. Because everyone was so caught up with their greed, showing off what’s not, and licking ass to worry about anything else.
Everywhere was already dark, and the only light guiding me was that of the moon, shining above. I headed towards the woods that the guards believed he ran into. A part of me tried to talk me out before diving deeper into the woods. I had no wolf to protect me, and who knows if there was some kind of wild animal in there?
And even worse, no one knew I was no longer in the pack house could die in the middle of nowhere, and they wouldn’t notice for a while, but turning back wasn’t an option either. Kael was somewhere in here, and it didn’t look like anyone was going to look for him.
“Kael! Kael, where are you? Kael!!!”
My voice echoed through the woods as I screamed out of my lungs. I hadn’t gone deep, and I knew this was my chance to leave before I got myself into any trouble, but why then did I bother coming in here if I left now without him?
Everywhere was cold, and I mentally cursed myself for not changing into much thicker and more comfortable clothes before heading out.
The moonlight guided my path through the woods, but the deeper I went in, the more my heart pounded in my chest. I wrapped my hands around my body, shivering lightly from the gold as I kept on searching.
A scream tore out my throat as I felt something jump suddenly. My hands flew to my chest, trying to hold myself together when I realized it was just a rat.
“You should go back and wait for Alpha Zane to do something,” voice said in my head. I wasn’t strong enough to be strolling the woods alone, but I stubbornly went further, even when every sensible part of me told me to turn back and leave.
I leaned against a tree, searching through the woods from where I stood when his familiar scent hit my nostrils. He’s near.
My heart skipped a beat at the thought as I started yelling out his name once again. “Kael! Can you hear me? Kael!!!”
My breath hitched as my legs kicked, already moving before I could stop myself. I followed the scent, but it felt like a strong force was trying to cut me off. One moment, I could sense it. The next moment, it was as if it was never there.
Or maybe it was because I didn’t have a wolf. If that was the case I shouldn’t have been able to pick his scent at all, especially when others couldn’t trail him. My palms became clammy as my thoughts went wild.
What if the elders were right? What if the reason his scent kept getting cut off was because something had happened to him?
I inhaled sharply, trying to shake off the thought, but the more ought it, the stronger it became. I needed to find Kael, or the thoughts would drive me insane.
I looked everywhere, but the woods seemed to be a dead end. Ts was my cue to turn back, but I just couldn’t. I kept walking in, and at one point, I began to panic
What if I couldn’t find my way back? The atmosphere felt differt, and it was as it this wasn’t the same path I had been taking since. My heart slammed against my ribcage, fear gripping on me, when I heard a strange sound.
It sounded like… water waves? I was certain there was no river around here or someone would have mentioned it at least

once, but I followed the sound anyway, and I gasped when I saw he sight of the beautiful waterfall in front of me.
How is this possible?
For a moment, I forgot about why I was here as I stared at the beautiful nature in front of me. It was serene. Calm and definitely the most peaceful thing I had ever seen.
I moved closer, admiring the beautiful sight and it suddenly felt like there was a magnet pulling me closer in the water. I tried to stop myself from moving closer, but it was as if my body was under an influence and had stopped listening to me.
The current of the water looked bigger than anything I had ever been too, and worse, I wasn’t a good swimmer, but the more I fought to turn back, the more my legs lurched forward.
What if this was some kind of a forbidden place that I shouldn’t have come in the first place? That’d explain why nobody knew about it. What if I drown in it?
My body shook violently as my legs came in contact with the water. It was freezing cold and there was no way I’d make out alive with the temperature, but my legs just kept on moving.
At one point, it felt like I was floating on the water before I finally got to the end and… my goodness, there’s a cave too.
I ran into the cave for an unknown reason, especially since I wasn’t the kind to be drawn to these kinds of things. I found a figure laying on the floor and moved closer, only to find Kael laying on the cold floor, drenched in his own blood.
“Kael?!”
My knees gave out as I collapsed next to him. I tore my dress to stop his wounds, hands trembling so badly at the sight of the blood, when I noticed how deep his wound was. The clothes were soaked within a few seconds, and my breath caught.
His flesh was burning deep inside and I could tell whoever attacked him used a silver dagger that was tainted with a wolfsbane.
Who would do such a thing?
It felt like a blade was twisted in my chest, watching whimper in pain without being able to stop it.
His face was pale, beads of sweat formed on his forearm and the only thing could think about was getting him help.
If only I brought my phone with me.
I rose to my feet, already thinking of how I’d go back to the pack house and bring him help before it’d be too late. I was about to leave when he held my hands, taking me by surprise.
I turned to face him, and he seemed to be straining his energy from the mere touch. I bent down so he wouldn’t have to exhaust himself.
“I need to get your help. I’ll be right back,” I assured him, but before I could leave, he stopped me again.
