70 The feels
KAEL
Each time I tried to wake Nevaeh up, she’d only stirred and slept again. An amusing smile played on my lips as I watched her sleep heavily. It was past midnight, and I knew we had to return home. After watching her peaceful face for what felt like forever, I finally woke her up.
“One minute,” she mumbled under her breath before dozing off again.
I nudged her gently, trying to wake her, but after several failed attempts, I gave up and helped her fix her clothes before carrying her into the car.
She didn’t even blink the entire time. I didn’t take her to be such a heavy sleeper, and just watching her like this brought a smile to my face. I hit the road and drove us back. Neveah kept hitting her head in space each time, and I couldn’t stop smiling at how tired she looked
The car bumped onto something, and I placed my hands in front of her instinctively. At the same time, her jead rolled off and came to rest on my shoulder.
My lips curved into a smile as I inhaled her scent. I didn’t pull her back to her seat and just enjoyed the ride with her head laying on my shoulder.
We finally got home, but I didn’t want to wake her up, so instead, I carried her in a bridal style and snuck back in through the garden. Everywhere was still dark, and I could tell no one was awake. I tiptoed as I climbed the stairs, careful not to wake anyone until I finally got her into her room.
I placed her gently on the bed and kissed her forehead. “Good night, sleepy head.” I muttered. I was about to leave when I felt a small tugged on my wrist.
I turned back to see Nevaeh half asleep as she spoke. “Please, stay.”
She drifted back to sleep almost immediately, but I couldn’t help the smile that tugged my lips. All I have ever wanted was hold her close and wake up next to her, and now that she had given me the chance, I didn’t think twice before taking off my shirt.
I climbed her bed, and she leaned closer to me, resting her head on my chest. I wished we could remain like this forever. I drifted off to sleep, holding her in my arms until my phone vibrated beside me.
It was four in the morning, and I knew the maids would be awake by now. I stood up, careful not to wake her up and snuck out through her window. Walking out of her room by this time of the was risky, and I couldn’t afford to get caught.
I climbed in through my window and closed the curtains as soon as I entered my room. I hadn’t even stepped away from it when a sharp knock resonated through the room. My blood ran cold as different thoughts invaded my mind.
Have I been caught? Why else would anyone come knocking at my door by this time of the day?
“Kael, open the door,” my father’s called out from outside, and my body stiffened. If my father came here this early, that could only mean one thing.
I’m in trouble.
I inhaled sharply before mustering the courage to open the door. I had expected to meet with his angry face, but he looked rather composed.
He drew his brows together when he noticed I was fully dressed, and my heart skipped a beat. “Why are you fully dressed? Are you headed somewhere? It’s still very early.”
Judging from his tone, I could tell he hadn’t caught on what was happening. My shoulder relaxed as I lied with a straight face. “I woke up earlier than usual, so I decided to prepare for school so that I can practice before school activities begin.”
I opened the door wider for him to come in, and thankfully, he seemed to buy my lie. He sat down on the couch in my room, and I wondered what this was all about if he hadn’t found out about Nevaeh and I.

I sat down on the bed, waiting for him to speak when he finally broke the silence. “I’m here to talk about Sabrina,” he announced, and I snapped my head at him in an instant.
Has he seen the video? Is that what this is all about? I didn’t expect him to be so calm after seeing it, but if that was the case, I knew I wouldn’t like whatever he was going to say next.
I swallowed hard and waited for him to continue.
“I want Sabrina to move in with us as soon as you’re done with school,” he said, taking me by surprise.
“What does that even mean?” I narrowed my eyes at him. “Why would she move in with us when her parents have their own mansion?”
“You’ll be receiving your Alpha training soon, and it’s only normal if she begins with Luna training as well,” he shrugged.
My hands curled into a fist as I glared at him. “You can’t just decide that for me. You know I have always wanted to go to college and become a professional sport person. I can’t-”
He slammed his fist on the nightstand, cutting me off. “Sport is not for Alphas!” He snapped. “It was a childish game I allowed you to play since you enjoyed doing it so much, but it’s time for you to grow up and embrace your responsibilities because it is either that or nothing.”
My body shook with rage as I stared at my father. I can’t believe he was making decisions for me again. I thought all of that ended with mating with Sabrina, but here we go again.
“I have a dream-”
“And you have a role to play in the pack too,” he snapped back. “If you haven’t noticed, I’m not getting younger anymore and you have to stop all of those childish attitude of yours and learn how to become a real Alpha.”
I knew arguing with him was useless, but i hated how he kept on messing with my plans with every given opportunity. He stood up, seeing how I was no longer responding to his words and patted my shoulder.
“Your mother would have been so proud to see you stepping up to take your duties seriously.”
I nodded, eager to get him out of my room, because Alpha duty was the last time I wanted to think about right now. It wasn’t the life I wanted for myself, and seeing how he didn’t care, there was no point arguing with him.
He left without another word and I just crashed on my bed, staring at the ceiling as I lost the will to do anything else. My father’s words kept replaying in my head, and for a moment, I wondered if this was worth giving my dream up for.
Everywhere was already bright outside. I pushed myself up and prepared for school reluctantly. By the time I got downstairs, I heard Nevaeh had already gone to school.
Feeling even more irritated, I drove to school angrily. I pulled up at my regular spot, only to see Travis leaning against a bike right there.
His eyes were covered up in bruises from our fight, but I didn’t feel an ounce of guilt. He stayed there and watched Sabrina bully Nevaeh. I’d do worse to him if I have the chance.
I was going to ignore him as I stepped out of the car when he called out my name. “Kael!” He said, stepping in front of me. “We need to talk.”
