Chapter 79

NEVAEH

I didn’t think the spot they’d decide to stay would be so far from the main entrance. As soon as I began to walk, I regretted not following the car immediately. It took me another thirty minutes to get to where everyone was, and when I did, I was already panting heavily.

Everyone seemed to have settled in, and one of the teachers was already addressing the students when I arrived.

“Your safety comes first. Do not wander around without our consent. This park is extremely large, and you can get lost if you’re not careful, so make sure you walk in groups and adhere to the rules.”

I tried to join them quietly, but it was too late. Every head snapped up to meet me, and I didn’t miss the frown on the teacher’s face.

“Can’t you keep to time for once?” She narrowed her brows, clearly annoyed. “You had enough time to prepare and meet the bus in school, and you still decided to show up late?”

“I’m sorry,” I apologized quickly as I squeezed myself in the crowd. She shook her head before continuing what she was saying.

“I know most of you must be planning other activities among yourselves. Alcohol is not allowed, and if we catch anyone with it, be rest assured that it’d reflect in your record and you’ll miss whatever mark you are supposed to get from the activities,” she said sternly, looking between everyone.

Everyone erupted in a loud groan before the teacher silenced them again.

“Can we at least throw a party among ourselves?” A boy I recognized from the hockey team asked, and the others looked up to the teacher longingly.

She shook her head firmly. “We’re here for educational purposes only, and that is what you will do.”

“Boring…”

Everyone was starting to complain about how boring the camping would be if the teachers didn’t allow them to do what they wanted, while I just watched.

“You must all be tired from the journey. We’ll be spending three days and two nights here, but first, set up your tents so that you can relax for the day.”

“Aren’t you supposed to provide a room or something?” A student asked in the crowd, and everyone nodded.

“Exactly! Why are we making tents?”

“The school has decided what you’ll be doing for the next three days. You’ll sleep in the tents you make tonight, and tomorrow, we’ll take you to your rooms where you can pick your roommates,” she announced.

The students mumbled among themselves, but the teacher continued anyway. “Make sure you sleep early! We’ll be playing volleyball tomorrow and come up with lots of exciting things to keep all of us entertained,” she said with a smile.

She turned to the other teacher in case he wanted to add anything, but everyone was already leaving one after the other to pick a spot for their tent.

I watched them fight for the best spot while I just stood there, wondering how I’d set up my tent. I have never done it before, and there’s no one to help me either.

I grabbed everything I needed and picked a spot at a corner. “It can’t be that hard,” I mumbled under my breath. I looked

around to see how everyone else was doing their own and decided to follow the steps.

I unpacked and laid it flat on the floor, but raising it by myself to assemble the poles seemed impossible.

Everyone else made it look so easy as they set up their tents, while I struggled to assemble the poles and talk less of staking it down. I broke down in sweat after several failed attempts and finally gave up.

I sat down on the floor, watching how everyone assisted their friends, laughing and having fun when my gaze fell on Kael. He was helping Sabrina to set up her tent, and I couldn’t help the tug of pinch in my chest.

The image of the night we spent together at the tent flashed before my eyes, and I wondered if he went through all this trouble just to play a prank on me.

He took off his shirt, and my gaze fell on his toned abs. Sweat trickled down his chest, making him look even hotter. As if he felt my gaze, his eyes locked with mine and I tore my gaze away immediately.

I stood up, dusting my ass to try again or I’d have to sleep on the field tonight, when a junior walked up to me.

“Do you need help with that?” He asked, already laying it flat before I could reply.

“Y-yes… I don’t know why it’s not working,” I said, joining him.

“It’s not really hard, you just have to pay attention to make sure you’re not missing anything,” he said. I nodded, watching him pull off the same thing I had been doing for the last thirty minutes only to see it worked.

“That was it?” I asked, still stunned that it was the exact thing I had been doing.

“It’s that easy,” he chuckled.

I gave him a grateful smile, but couldn’t help but wonder why he’d help me. I’ve seen him a couple of times in school, but we’ve never spoken. He was like Kael junior in the hockey team. People said once Kael graduates, he’d be the next captain and that was how I got to know him.

“What is your name?” I asked as he dusted his hands.

“Kane,” he answered without glancing at me.

“Thanks for your help, but I’m surprised you even helped at all,” I confessed. Everyone had been laughing at my failed attempts to set up my tent, so why would he offer to help?

He shrugged as he walked away without leaving me even more confused.

KAEL

Sabrina had been clinging unto me since I stepped out of the car. She whined nonstop about not informing her I was coming with a private car, and all I wished she’d just read the room and shut up.

“Will Alpha send the driver to come pick you later? It’d be nice to spend some time together,” she said with a flirtatious smile.

I ignored her as I set up her tent when I saw Nevaeh struggling with hers. Each time she tried to raise her tent, it kept crashing back and no one seemed to care about her.

“Have some respect!” Sabrina snapped, snapping me out of my trance. I glanced at her, only to see she was already glaring at Neveah. “I am right here,” she hissed. “How can you be staring at that bitch?”

I straightened, leaving her tent to meet with her gaze. “Got any problem with that?” I raised my brows and she scoffed.

Chapter 79

She flipped her phone in her hands, reminding me of the video. “Don’t forget I know your secret and I can reveal it at any time, so you better watch your tone,” she threatened.

My jaw clenched.

I stepped closer, intimidating her with my towering frame, but she didn’t cower. “Keep that up and I won’t hold back anymore,” I warned.

She snorted as she took a step back, hugging her phone to her chest. For a second there, I wanted to snatch her phone and delete the video, but I’m not stupid to believe she’s not corny to have other copies.

“You want me to stop with the threats? It’s simple. Everyone already knows we’re betrothed. Act like it and stop staring at that cheap whore.”

My blood boiled with rage, but I knew there was no point in reasoning with her. As soon as I finished with her tent, I stormed off angrily.

“Come over for some nice time, huh?” She called out.

Every head turned to face us, and I knew she was doing it for attention, but I ignored it. I hadn’t stopped thinking about Neveah since the video got leaked. I missed her so fucking much that it was driving me insane, but I also knew the only way to protect her was by staying away.

Sabrina is a possessive bitch. If she caught a glimpse of me with Neveah, she could run wild, and I can’t bring her into any more difficult situations.

I have failed her once. There can’t be a repeat. The night Sabrina recorded us was supposed to be special. She was already feeling so down and I wanted to do something to ease her pain. To make her forget and loosen up, but Sabrina just had to ruin everything.

Kane walked past me at that moment, when I stopped him. Neveah was still struggling to set up her net and I could no longer watch without doing anything.

“Go help her fix her tent,” I said, pointing to Neveah and he raised his eyebrows.

“Why would you want to help her? She’s useless at everything and you shouldn’t involve yourself with someone like that—”

“Now!” I snapped, cutting him off and he simply nodded.

I watched as he offered to help Nevaeh and only then did I feel a little relieved.

I knew she must have been dying to hear the truth from me. I saw the look on her face when she accused me in the car earlier. I wished things weren’t so complicated, but I’d rather be the bad person in this tale than put her in another ditficult situation.

She has been through enough already, and at the end of the day, she’s my real true mate and if I can’t tell anyone the truth, the least I can do is protect her.

“What if we just tell the truth?” My wolf reasoned. A sad smile tugged my lips, wishing things could be that easy.

My father would rather kill Neveah and make her disappear for good before he accepts our relationship. All I can do now is keep Sabrina in place and to do that, the video must disappear for good.

I need to delete the video.
