Her mother held her and said with a smile, “You’re the sweetest, my dear Jasmine. Better behaved than all the other little wolf cubs.”
Another time, she scraped her knee and cried so hard that she couldn’t catch her breath. Her father lifted her onto his shoulders and said as he walked, “Alright, no more crying. I’ll take you to get candy. Whatever you want, you can have it.”
She remembered those rough hands, steady against her back.
She remembered the warmth.
“Ms. Stone, you know who I am, don’t you? You know my mother? She asked you to find me, didn’t she?**
Her chest rose and fell rapidly, sweat beading across her forehead.
Viola looked at her and felt something tighten in her chest.
“Yes. Your mother is in Silvermoon Pack. She’s never stopped looking for you all these years. That’s how I found you.”
She explained everything from the beginning. How Jasmine’s mother found Luke, how Luke brought in Shane to draw the portraits, and how Shane used her childhood features and her parents‘ looks to work out what she might look like now.
She also mentioned how she had gotten curious about the girl arranged to marry Terrence and had snuck in at night to take a look.
“And when I got back; I saw the portraits Shane drew. One of them looked exactly like you,” Viola said. “That’s why I came tonight. People can look alike, so we weren’t sure it was really you. That’s why I brought the wooden wolf to test you. Good thing you remembered.”
Jasmine stayed quiet for a long time.
She didn’t understand drawing. She couldn’t imagine how someone could recreate a grown face just from a child’s features and her parents‘ looks.
But memory didn’t lie.
Pieces of it had come back, faint but real.
When they surfaced, her chest ached, sour and heavy, with a trace of warmth tangled inside.
All these years, she had believed she’d been abandoned because she was sick. She had hated her parents for it. Because she had been thrown away, even the smallest kindness made her want to give everything in return.
Estelle had saved her life. Being saved like that felt like a debt she could never repay. So when Estelle said she would take her to Frostfang Pack, she didn’t resist. She followed without question.
She had even thought about spending her whole life there, serving, just to repay that debt.
But after she arrived, Estelle treated her too well. She provided good food, good clothes, and lessons in etiquette, saying she would find her a good mate one day.

Jasmine had grown up scraping by with her adoptive parents. She knew people weren’t that simple. They had no ties, and yet Estelle not only saved her but wanted to match her with a high–ranking Alpha. It didn’t sit right.
The longer she stayed in Frostfang Pack, the more it felt off.
But because Estelle had saved her, she never let herself think too deeply about it.
“What you’re saying…” Jasmine’s voice trembled, her breathing uneven, “Esteile saving me might’ve all been staged? Is that true?”
“We don’t know yet. That’s why we need to find out. Can you tell me what happened back then? And what happened the day your home was attacked?”
Jasmine nodded and told everything she remembered, detail by detail.
Viola asked carefully, covering every angle she could think of, since she would need to report back to Laila and Luke. Jasmine answered just as thoroughly, especially about the days leading up to the attack.
By the time she finished, her throat was dry and hoarse. After a while, she asked, a little uneasy, “When can I see my mother?”
“You’re staying at the Knights‘ place right now. It’s not easy for you to get out. I can come and go without being noticed, but taking you with me would be risky. Don’t worry, though. It won’t be long.”
“Okay.”
Jasmine covered her face as tears slipped through her fingers.
She never thought she would get the chance to see her family again.,
No… she had thought about it.
