Jasmine broke down again.

“I still have a family. They didn’t abandon me. They’ve been looking for me all this time, waiting for me.”

She looked at Viola, tears streaming down her face.

“Ms. Stone, you don’t understand what this means to me. After my adoptive parents died, I thought I had no one left. Being alone in this world… it’s terrifying.”

Viola pulled her into a hug, her own eyes stinging.

As much as it hurt to see her like this, she still told Jasmine to be patient. She didn’t mention their plan against Estelle, and she didn’t say that once it was over, Jasmine would no have to keep carrying out Estelle’s orders.

No matter what, that plan couldn’t leak. If it did, Laila would skin her alive.

“Jasmine’s loyal to a fault. She sees Estelle as her savior. If Estelle falls and asks her to do something dangerous to repay that debt, she’ll do it without hesitation.”

“Alright.” Laila nodded. “I’ll have Tracy look into it.”

Hugo walked out of the dungeon, his steps heavy as he made his way to the side hall, where Estelle was waiting.

He had traded Laila’s plan for a chance to enter the dungeon and bring Diana some food and clothes.

He had given up his daughter, Chloe.

He had no choice.

The Knights and Frostfang Pack were tied together too tightly. Obeying Estelle was the only path left for him.

“As for Laila, arrange more meetings. Get her to talk. I want every detail of her plan,” Estelle continued. “And tell her some of our arrangements for October 10. The more she believes, the better.”

“Understood. I’ll have Chloe arrange a meeting,” Hugo said.

“As for Jasmine and Terrence, tell your mother to move things along. No delays.”

Hugo hesitated. “I don’t think Terrence will choose Jasmine. She’s not from that circle. It shows in the way she carries herself. She doesn’t have that noble bearing.”

Estelle let out a cold laugh. She saw right through his thoughts.

“Enough. Just do as I say.”

Hugo fell silent.

He knew better than anyone that he couldn’t win against Estelle.

All he could do was speak up for the Knights where he could. Beyond that, he was powerless.

“What about Claire? Has Ricardo taken notice of her?” Estelle asked.

Hugo replied, “I arranged for them to meet, but Ricardo didn’t spare her a second glance.”

“How is that possible?”

Estelle frowned. “Is she still being stubborn? Refusing to approach him?”

“No. She’s doing exactly what she was told. I can guarantee that,” Hugo said quickly.
