Estelle, forget Kain. It’s time to move on.”

Her wolf spirit’s voice echoed in her mind, trying to reason with her.

A bitter taste filled Estelle’s mouth, rising from deep inside her. She pressed her fist to her temple and closed her eyes, but when she spoke, the words came out through clenched teeth. No. I won’t let him go. He cut me off without a second thought, wanted nothing tying him to me. I won’t give him that.

Her wolf spirit let out a quiet sigh. You’re fighting a dead man. Estelle, the dead should stay dead. Let him go.

You think I want to hold on?Estelle snapped her eyes open, something burning in them. It was hard to tell whether it was anger or the same fierce heat she had felt the first time she saw him years ago. He’s in my dreams every night. He’s the one who won’t leave me alone. Even dead, he won’t let me have peace.

Tears spilled over as her shoulders trembled, though she fought to hold herself together.

Sometimes I don’t even know whether I hate him or still love him. When he died, I grieved more than anyone. No one in this world loved him as much as I did. Diana loved him? Not even close. If I had been his Luna, I would’ve died with him that day. Did Diana do

that?

She didn’t. She went on living just fine.

If not for the Solantian assassins, she would still be alive now.

Estelle’s hatred ran deep. She hated that Kain died too early, that he never realized who truly loved him.

As for Zane, she had seen him by chance.

A month ago, her carriage passed along the treelined road north of the Royal Court. She lifted the curtain and looked out.

And she saw him.

He wore a dark gray coat, his chin slightly lifted, his stride easy, his whole presence like a flame in motion. Her blood rushed to her head in an instant. For a moment, she thought the man who had died had come back to life.

Since that day, the past had haunted her dreams.

In those dreams, Kain remained distant, speaking to her with polite detachment, like a stranger. Sometimes, when he saw her approaching, he would turn and walk away.

So she had people look into Zane. He had spent years traveling for business, which was why she had never seen him before.

But now that she had, he would be hers. She would have him, no matter what.

She wanted that face at her feet.

Half a month later.

taila had uncovered the truth behind how Estelle had savedJasmine.

Tracy tracked down the Bogues and got them to talk. They admitted they had been paid by Estelle to kill Jasmine’s adoptive parents.

The evidence was solid. Viola was furious.

Laila felt anger burning in her chest too.

She knew exactly why Estelle had targeted Jasmine. It was because of her face. It resembled her mother’s.

Jasmine’s real saviors were her adoptive parents, and they had died because they took her in. How was she supposed to accept that? Laila felt sick just thinking about it, let alone what it would do to Jasmine.

She stayed quiet for a moment, her eyes reddening. We can’t tell Jasmine yet. I don’t know what she’d do if she found out.

Viola agreed. No one here could take that kind of truth. Better to wait until Estelle was dealt with.

As for Jasmine and Terrence’s marriage, Katherine had brought it up several times. Terrence handied it well. He used the excuse of visiting an injured comrade and left the Royal Court, dragging things out naturally.

On Lillian’s side, she had been staying at Silvermoon Pack and was recovering well. Recently, she had even started training with Rockie. With an Alpha’s foundation and having finally let go of Shawn, she recovered quickly.

Meanwhile, Pearl’s drawing skills had improved dramatically.

At the very least, her portraits now looked like actual people.

She was proud of her progress and drew the two people who had/hurt her before. The lines were rough, but Laila still had people

use them to search.

Of course, Pearl still needed practice. Laila didn’t rush her, choosing encouragement instead.

Holt hadn’t come asking about Freya’s whereabouts lately, so she wasn’t in a rush.

Samuel had also finalized the deal to buy the old woman’s house. Once Jasmine returned, she would move with her mother into a better place.

Samuel was in a good mood. After finalizing the deal, he even went next door to Laila’s place to mooch a meal.

The guards at the den exchanged looks from a distance.
