Chapter 107

“Emma needs to get to the hospital,” I said to Cord Castellan. “Can you give us an hour? I’ll call my father, set up temporary housing, coordinate with pack security-”

“We can hold for an hour.” He stepped back. “Jeremy, I know the timing is abysmal. But I promise–we’ll stay out of your way. Won’t interfere with the birth or your family. We just need a safe place to regroup.”

“Fine. One hour. Meet at the northern border entrance. I’ll have people waiting.” I turned back to Emma. “We need to go. Now.”

The drive to the hospital was a blur of phone calls. First my father, explaining the situation. Then Marcus, coordinating security for sixty incoming vampires. Then pack housing coordinators, medical staff, everyone who needed to know that we were about to grant sanctuary to an entire vampire coven.

“Are you sure about this?” Emma asked between contractions. “Bringing sixty vampires onto pack lands?”

“Are you? You’re the one who said yes while in active labor.”

“They attacked children, Jeremy. What was I supposed to say? ‘Sorry, come back when it’s more convenient?“” Another contraction. “Besides, this is what being leaders means. Making hard choices at inconvenient times.”

God, I loved this woman.

Dr. Reeves was waiting when we arrived. She took one look at Emma and immediately started barking orders to nurses.

“How far apart are contractions?” she asked.

“Four minutes,” Emma gasped. “And getting closer.”

“Alright, let’s get you into delivery. Jeremy, you’re-“She paused, taking in my stressed expression and the phone still in my hand. “Is something wrong?”

“We just granted sanctuary to sixty vampires who are under attack by hunters. They’ll be arriving within the hour.” I helped Emma onto the bed. “But that’s not important right now. Taking care of Emma and our pup is the priority.”

“Damn right it is.” Dr. Reeves turned to her staff. “I don’t care if the entire vampire nation is at our doorstep. This is a delivery room, not a war room. Everyone out except Jeremy and necessary medical personnel.”

Over the next hour, I split my focus between Emma–breathing through contractions, squeezing my hand, being absolutely incredible and my phone, coordinating the vampire arrival.

My father handled most of it, bless him. The vampires were being housed in the old eastern quarter, away fron main pack housing. Security protocols established. Rules set. Integration plans started.

“Jeremy.” Emma’s voice pulled me back. “Put the phone down. I need you here. Really here.”

She was right. I silenced my phone and focused entirely on her.

“I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Good. Because this is about to get really intense and I need-“Another contraction, stronger than before. “I need my mate. Not the future Alpha. Just you.”

“You have me. All of me.” I pressed my forehead to hers. “Emma, you’re incredible. So strong.”

“Tell me that in a few hours when I’m screaming at you about how this is all your fault.”

Labor progressed. Hours blurred together–contractions, breathing exercises, encouragement from Dr. Reeves, Emma’s strength through every wave of pain.

At some point, my father texted: “Vampires settled. No incidents. All quiet. Focus on your family.”

At dawn, after six hours of labor, our daughter was born. 罩

She came into the world screaming, pink and perfect and absolutely beautiful. Dr. Reeves placed her on Emma’s chest and my mate started crying–tears of joy and relief and overwhelming love.

“She’s perfect,” Emma whispered. “Jeremy, look at her. She’s perfect.”

I couldn’t speak. Could only stare at this tiny person we’d created. Our daughter. Our future.
