“Grace for the grace you showed me, For forgiveness. For second chances.” I looked at Emma. “For everything you’ve taught me about love and redemption.”

“That’s perfect.” Emma cradled our daughter closer. “Welcome to the world, Grace. You’re so loved.”

A knock on the door interrupted the moment. A nurse poked her head in.

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but Lord Castellan is outside. He says he’ll only take a moment of your time.”

Emma and I exchanged glances. “Let him in,” I said.

The vampire lord entered quietly, his usual confidence tempered with respect for the moment. He approached the bed slowly, his eyes on Grace.

“Congratulations,” he said softly. “She’s beautiful.”

“Thank you.” Emma adjusted Grace in her arms. “And thank you for the timing. I know you needed sanctuary urgently.”

“I’m grateful you granted it despite-“he gestured vaguely, “-everything happening. Jeremy, your father has been exceptional in coordinating housing and security. Your pack has shown great kindness to us.”

“You helped us during the Black River assault. We help you with the hunters.” I paused. “But Lord Castellan, this doesn’t clear the debt, does it?”

“No. The debt was specifically my healing of your father and my assistance in the battle. Granting sanctuary was the favor I called in.” His expression was serious. “You still owe me one additional condition when I eventually call in the full debt.”

“I figured.” I’d known the debt was more complicated than simple sanctuary. “When will you call that in?”

“When the time is right. Not today. Not while you’re celebrating your daughter’s birth.” He moved toward the door. “But Jeremy, Emma–the hunters who attacked us? They’re not just targeting vampires. They’re targeting any supernatural creature they consider a threat. Wolves included.”

The implications hung heavy in the air.

“You think they’ll come here,” Emma said.

“I think it’s only a matter of time. These hunters are professional, well–funded, and fanatical about their mission.” He paused at the door. “Which is why the alliance I proposed three months ago is more important than ever. United, we stand a better chance against threats like this.”

After he left, Emma and I sat in silence, Grace sleeping peacefully between us.

“So we have sixty vampire refugees, potential hunter attacks, an alliance proposal to consider, and a vampire debt still hanging over us,” Emma finally said. “Plus a newborn daughter.”

“When you put it that way, it sounds overwhelming.”

“It is overwhelming.” She smiled tiredly. “But we’ll handle it. Like we’ve handled everything else. Together.”

“Together,” I agreed.

I looked at Grace—so tiny, so innocent, so completely dependent on us to protect her. She’d been born into a world of vampire alliances and hunter threats and supernatural politics.

But she’d also been born into a world where her parents loved each other fiercely, where her pack would protect her, where her extended family–including apparently sixty grateful vampires–would ensure her safety.

“I’m going to be a good father,” I said quietly. “Better than I was a mate in the beginning. She deserves that.”

“You’re already a good father. I can see it in how you look at her.” Emma’s hand found mine. “Jeremy, we’ve both made mistakes. Both had to learn and grow. But we’re here now, together, with our beautiful daughter. That’s what matters.”

She was right. The past was the past. What mattered was the future we were building

A future with our daughter.

With our pack.

With vampire allies and looming hunter threats and uncalled debts.

But also with love. Trust. Partnership.

Everything we’d fought so hard to rebuild.
