The reinforced door cracked open. Emma’s face appeared, Grace chitched to her chest, Marcus standing behind them both with his claws extended.

“We’re okay,” she said. “We heard the fighting. Dad killed one of them before they reached urs.”

“There were three. Lord Castellan got the third.” pulled her into a fierce bug, careful of Grace between us. “You’re safe. You’re both safe.”

“For now,” Lord Castellan said grimly, examining the dead hunter. “But Jeremy, look at this.”

He pulled a device from the hunter’s tactical vest. A radio, currently transmitting.

A voice crackled through: “Alpha team, report. Have you secured the newborn?”

My blood turned to ice. “They knew. They knew about Grace.”

“How?” Emma’s voice was barely a whisper. “She was born an hour ago. How could hunters possibly know?”

“Information leak,” Lord Castellan said. “Someone told them. Someone close enough to know about the birth in real time.”

“Another spy,” Marcus growled. “Like Drake. Someone in the pack feeding information to enemies.”

The implications were staggering. We had a traitor. Again. Someone who’d told hunters about my daughter’s birth within an hour of it happening.

The radio crackled again: “Alpha team not responding. Bravo and Charlie teams, converge on hospital. Eliminate all targets.”

“They’re sending more,” I said. “We need to evacuate Emma and Grace. Now.”

“Where?” Emma demanded. “Jeremy, if we have a spy in the pack, nowhere is safe. They’ll know wherever we go.”

She was right. And we didn’t have time to root out the traitor before more hunters arrived.
