Chapter 113

For a moment, nothing happened. Then golden light–the same healing light I’d seen when he healed Alpha Richard–began to emanate from Lord Castellan’s hands.

Jeremy’s back arched off the bed. His eyes flew open, unfocused and filled with pain. A scream tore from his throat. “Jeremy!” I gripped his hand tighter. “I’m here. I’m right here.”

The golden light pulsed, spreading across Jeremy’s chest. And then I saw it–fragments of silver literally being pulled out through his skin. Tiny pieces of metal emerging like splinters being drawn out, dropping onto the bedsheets with soft pings. Jeremy’s screaming intensified. His free hand clawed at the sheets, at himself, trying to make it stop.

“Hold him,” Lord Castellan commanded. “Don’t let him interfere.”

I climbed onto the bed, using my weight to pin Jeremy’s thrashing form. “It’s okay. You’re going to be okay. Just hold on. Please hold on.”

More silver fragments emerged. Dozens of them. So much metal that had been poisoning him from the inside.

“Emma-” Jeremy’s voice was raw. “Make it stop. Please make it stop.”

“I can’t. I’m sorry. But it’s working. Look-“I forced him to see the silver pieces accumulating on the sheets. “It’s coming out. You’re going to be okay.”

“It hurts-”

“I know. I know it hurts. But you’re going to live. You’re going to see Grace grow up. You’re going to be Alpha. You just have to survive this.”

The golden light intensified. Lord Castellan’s expression was strained now, sweat beading on his forehead–unusual for a vampire who normally showed no signs of physical exertion.

“Almost done,” he muttered. “Just a few more- there.”

One final, larger piece of silver emerged from near Jeremy’s heart. The bullet’s core. The moment it cleared his skin, the golden light faded.

Lord Castellan stumbled back, looking genuinely exhausted. “It’s done. The silver is out. His wolf can heal the rest.”

Jeremy went limp in my arms, his breathing immediately easier. The color was already returning to his face as his supernatural healing kicked into overdrive.

“Jeremy?” I touched his face gently. “Can you hear me?”

His eyes opened, clearer now. Focused on me. “Emma. Grace–is she-”

“Safe. With my father. She’s safe.” I was crying again, but from relief this time. “You’re going to be okay. You’re going to live.”

“Lord Castellan-” Jeremy tried to sit up, wincing at the pain.

“Rest,” the vampire commanded. “We’ll discuss the debt later. For now, just heal.”

“The debt. Emma, what did you

“I agreed to a life–debt. For both of us.” I met his eyes. “Jeremy, you were dying. I couldn’t just let you die.”

“A life–debt.” He closed his eyes. “Emma, do you understand what that means?”

“It means you’re alive. That’s all that matters right now.”

Lord Castellan moved toward the door. “I’ll give you both time to rest and recover. But Jeremy, Emma the terms of this debt. Soon. What I’ve done for your family–healing your father, saving your life twice now–creates

After he left, Jeremy pulled me closer despite his injuries. “You shouldn’t have done that Shouldn’t have agreed to bind us both to him.”

“What was I supposed to do? Watch you die?” I burled my face in his shoulder. “Jeremy, I gave birth to our daughter this morning. I’ve been awake for twenty–four hours straight, I watched hunters attack our pack. I saw you take a silver bullet. I sat here watching you slowly die from poisoning. I made the only choice I could make.”

“I know. I know.” He held me tighter. “I just–I don’t want you bound to my mistakes. To my debts.”

“They’re our debts now. Our family’s debts.” I pulled back to look at him. “Jeremy, we’re partners. Mates. Whatever consequences come from this, we face them together.”

“Together,” he agreed quietly.

A soft knock on the door. My father entered, carrying Grace in his arms. “She’s hungry. And I think she wants her parents.”

Jeremy’s face transformed at the sight of our daughter. “Can I-”

“You can hold her sitting up. Carefully.” I helped him adjust, propping pillows behind his back.
